The Oceans

The Oceans

BandAlternativeRock

The Oceans are a band like no other. Their music is filled with energy, tweaks, souring melodies, driving beats & an underlying presence of pop sensibility. A soundscape of emotive and endearing songs that range from textured trippier moments to unrestrained dirty rock, The Oceans are alive.

Biography

'It doesn't take long these days...'
- Robbie Buck JJJ national youth radio

Having shed an previous moniker and eager to show a new change in direction and renewed confidence, THE OCEANS re-launched themselves in July at Candy’s Apartment in Kings Cross.. To an audience of no less then 300 fans, maybe Candy should get a house?

The place went off. The band, electrifying.

Since then, the band has recorded a debut album, signed a 3 album publishing deal with EMI publishing, released their first single which was picked up by JJJ as well as many community radio stations around the country, had a track selected to go on a major alcohol companies surfing DVD (70 000 copies going out nationally starting April) and began regional and interstate touring. The band has also shot their first clip to 'Black Lotus' filmed in a deserted dairy in Wyong, NSW. It is currently being played on Rage.

The Oceans headline Sydney shows are drawing no less then 300 paying fans and have built in the last quarter of 2005 an mailing list of over 800 addresses. The website is averaging 3 500 hits a month and the band have teamed up with Australian designed 'Yokii' to create a quality range of 100% Australian merchandise. (see website for samples).

This is one artist absolutely worth seeing, willing to break out side an easily pigeonholed scene with songs that range from gently textured trippier moments to unrestrained dirty rock.

Garter Doll

Written By: The Oceans

hello hello
high ilicit garter doll
i borrowed something blue
i wanna give it back to you

now theres been a murder you decide
i still believe the moon can turn the tide
seems like i believe in it all
believe in it all?

ebb and flow
ebb and flow reason grows
so awkward and pale
you look so awkward and pale

now theres been a murder you decide
i still believe the moon can turn the tide
seems like i believe in it all
believe in it all?

ebb and fliow

helicopters are lying low tonight casting dragnets through my soul
and every time they circle round i see you scattered on the ground

hello i know that you are there
hello i know that you can hear
theres been a murder turn the tide
a murder you decide
hello, hello

Western Meditation

Written By: The Oceans

Families, Tribes, and Nations
sifting through time
breathing in
breathing out

rhythm is our meditation
rhythm, dance and wine
rhythm is our occasion
in rhythm we feel fine

married to the weight of this hoe
rhythm rise and fall
digging in
digging down

rhythm is our meditation
rhythm bring divine
rhythm is our occasion
rhythm, dance and wine

Families Tribes and Nations
so willing and open exhausted divorced of fear.

Open for Trade

Written By: The Oceans

here comes the queen of everything
queen of nothing new
blue stones are held by ebony
but i see right through
slip through your door
through ice and snow
but music warms me
like a burning coal

things are changing
i'm moving on

God is trading in dreams like us

Exchange - we are open for trade
Exchange - deliberated , delayed
Exchange - we are open to change

things are changing
i’m holding on

God is trading and we are open for

tripping i’m not walking
tripping i won’t run
tripping i’m not walking
close as it comes tonight
close as it comes tonight

Black Lotus

Written By: The Oceans

i am a red rage
i am the bulls horn
i am motile venom
insert emotion

i am a black lotus
with black insight
i won’t threaten to redden
i’ll hit the bull’s eye

karma in my head is here to stay
it won't hurt don't look the other way

download a feeling
forgive my needing
i've been tele-transmitted
i quit believing

karma in my head is here to stay
(fire clear my way)
it won't hurt don't look the other way
(fire here to stay)
all my friends are crazy in the head
we can't be what you be
we can't hear what you

Karma Then?

Written By: The Oceans

she shimmy shakes her
her body quakes her
to the ends where she extends

she shimmy shakes her
cognition takes her
to the end of all defence

where the beauty just begins....for a million miles an hour
What shall we do with this hour?
Shimmer dance in lines of fire?
How the hell is your karma then?

and the feeling begins
as the sun sets within
and we shake the pearls from moonlit worlds
its funny now the feeling goes
and suddenly the harvesting begins.....

and now dragonflies are breathing heavy in the sky
massaging my hope to fly!

and the feeling begins
as the sun sets within
and we shake the pearls from moonlit worlds
its funny now the feeling goes
and suddenly the harvesting begins

of God knows, what?
