Theoline Maphutha

 Johannesburg, Gauteng, ZAF
SoloPopAdult Contemporary

An independent writer with nimble flexibility, and a deliberate succinct style of communication, who delivers autonomously creative ideas and solutions.

Biography

Like most children, Theoline grew up collecting her favourite musicians' pictures and lyrics. Her favourite pastime was performing all these songs in front of her family and friends.

Until one fateful day, when her mother walked in her unique rendition of a popular song and said, "why do you sing other people's songs, why don't you sing your own?"

Since then Theoline has been writing lyrics and in her effort to improve her craft, she entered the songwriting competitions and took up some online lyric writing classes.

Theoline enjoys writing rock lyrics but has influences of many genres from classical to world music. If she had to describe her music however, she would probably say that it is, "timeless simplicity."

Lyrics

I Need A Minute

Written By: Theoline Maphutha

VERSE 1
Sweaty palms
Shaking, shaken
Heart pounding
Sound is mounting
It’s hard to breathe
Battling, broken
Words hard to come by
Searching, thinking
I need a minute

VERSE 2
Memories last
Emotions weaken
Theories cast
Common sense’s losing
It’s hard to describe
The way that I’m feeling
Complex thoughts
Forgetting, thinking
I need a minute, minute (minute)

BRIDGE
Minutes up
I’m sorry
I can’t do this
Not again
And not with you

VERSE 3
Fragile heart
Breaking, broken
Can’t go back
Cannot change things
You gave your heart
Stealing, stolen
To someone else
And left me hurting, thinking
I need a minute, minute (minute)

I need a minute.

What We Are

Written By: Theoline Maphutha

VERSE 1
I can’t say I don’t see dye when I do, so I’m not colour-blind
I want to tell people apart, since there’s beauty in every hue
I can’t pretend, that this is otherwise, I’ll be denying my reality
I want to stare in your big hued eyes, so you know that this is true

CHORUS 1
But sometimes I feel restricted, conflicted and somewhat out of place
When I don’t have to, I feel the need to, protect what we are
Times are new, but things still get to me, you can see it on my face
You don’t have to care, I’m not going anywhere, it’s who and what we are

VERSE 2
You can’t say you don’t see dye when you do, you’re not colour-blind
You want to be with me always, and let me love you like I do
You can’t ignore, the attraction you feel, you’ll be denying your reality
You want to stare in my big hued eyes so I know that this is true

CHORUS 2
But sometimes you feel restricted, conflicted and somewhat out of place
When you don’t have to, you feel the need to, protect what we are
Times are new, but things still get to you I can see it on your face
I don’t have to care, you’re not going anywhere, it’s who and what we are

BRIDGE
They say love can transcend borders, but it’s easier said than done
Like anything worth fighting for, there’s more to it, than what meets the eye
It’s when you have someone who knows you, and loves you for who you are
The work seems like nothing compared, to what you get, feeling like a tsar

CHORUS 3
Though sometimes we feel restricted, conflicted and somewhat out of place
When we don’t have to, but feel the need to, protect what we are
Times are new, but things still get to us, it is written on our faces
We don’t have to care, we’re not going anywhere, it’s who and what we are

We’re not going anywhere, it’s who and what we are

Far Ahead

Written By: Theoline Maphutha

CHORUS
When I wake up in the early light
Put in the hours until the night
Let my heart lead I’ll follow
Can’t wait for tomorrow
When I know I’ll be alright
When I lay down in my bed
I know I’ll put in as good as I get
Let my dreams lead I’ll follow
This is all for tomorrow
When I know I’m far ahead

VERSE 1
Billion stars in the sky tonight
But none of them shine as bright as my eyes
If success is for the taking (I’m on it)
I’m a star in the making (and for it)
Today is for the living
Yesterday for the wishing
Tomorrow I’ll be set for sure

REPEAT CHORUS

VERSE 2
Billion haters watching tonight
None of them know about any of my plights
The only way is to make it (I’m on it)
There’s no room to fake it (not for it)
Dedication is the key
Perseverance is surely
The secret to success, I say

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE
If I don’t put in the hours
Hope for the best, depend on the rest
I’ll be giving up my powers to make a change
If I do everything I can
To make sure I’m the best, pass all the tests
I’ll be making things happen
So that this world is a better place

REPEAT CHORUS

Free Love

Written By: Theoline Maphutha

VERSE 1
Why do I always hit a wall when I know what I want, my love?
Why do you, the one I want to get to, protect yourself from me?
Why is it that when I’m here you resist and push me away then
You put me through your tests and you won’t rest, because
The threat is democratic that I’m forced to leave you to your vices
You want to come close to me and be with me but it’s a crisis
You feel like we’ve given up and that’s why many have succumbed
You can’t stand here doing nothing, you want something, you want free love

VERSE 2
Why do you always turn away from what you know you want, my love?
Why do I, the one that you admire, have to close myself from you?
Why is it that when you insist on being closer to me that
I put you through my tests and I won’t rest, because
The threat is so demonic that you’re forced to leave me to my vices
I want to come close to you, be with you but I have to fight this
I feel like we’ve surrendered, that’s why many are pretenders
I can’t stand here doing nothing, I want something, I want free love

BRIDGE
A love that’s unconditional, priceless, but real love, it’s free love
The kind that is sensational, but respectful that’s real love, it’s free love

VERSE 3
But something’s come between us, it’s stupendous, that’s the thing, my love
We have to fight it, I can’t deny it, this threat is very real
It makes things complicated and we cannot ignore or suspend it
We have to go through tests and we won’t rest because
The threat is so toxic we are forced to listen to the authorities
We want to come together and be one but it’s a crisis
We feel like we’ve given up and that’s why many have succumbed
We can’t stand here doing nothing, we want something, we want free love

You're My Man And I Love You

Written By: Theoline Maphutha

My man you are, I know for sure
it's in the grace of your walk
the span of your shoulders
it's the ease of your smile
the warmth of your touch
it's the way you call my name
and I know I'm blessed
You're man and l love you

You carry my heart with reason
and nurse it like it is your own
with respect, endurance and honour
you're my king and I, your queen
I love what I am when I'm with you
you're my partner, my soul mate
and I know I'm blessed because
You're my man and I love you

You're my mirror
through your eyes I see your soul
and I know I'm blessed....

My man you are, I know for sure
it's in the grace of your walk
the span of your shoulders
it's the ease of your smile
the warmth of your touch
it's the way you call my name
and I know I'm blessed
You're man and l love you
