#6 THEOLOGY 3 The Time (independent)
”Theology 3's new EP got slept on hardcore, but it's a strong work from one of the city's most dedicated hip hop representatives. Like Flavor Flav back in the day, Theo demonstrates that he knows The Time with brash honesty, focusing on life as an MC in the Screwface Capital, with solid assists from DJs Serious and Grouch”.

NNNN
Locally based MC Theology's voice occasionally sounds slightly like Common's, but that's really the only negative thing I can say about his near-flawless EP (which, at 10 tracks, could've been called an album). The beats, provided by his skilled beat bros, including T Wrecks and DJ Serious (contributing the hottest instrumental here, by a nose), are all on some thick, musically robust vintage-era Nas shit. DJ Grouch's scratches raise the bar, and Theo's flow is liquidy-smooth. Wisely, dude goes above and beyond the battle, painting an intriguing picture with a wide yet relevant range of bold topics other spitters would be scared to talk about. Before the first track's over, he's called out bullshit promoters who don't pay and rappers who go to shows just to be seen, and declares that it's "time to stop saying 'urban. '" Word, word and word.

“Theo has put together one of the most exciting albums I've heard in some time. The production is tight, flow equally so and the MC comes correct with a moving mix of humour, metaphors, political interjections and social commentary.” - EYE magazine
” They call him the Megacity Mayor, the Prime Minister of the Screwface Capital, and in truth, there are very few individuals in the Toronto rap community that could rightfully carry those same titles. In this mix-style EP, T3 steps up to educate and entertain, letting both his experience of years and keen political awareness grab hold of your speakers for 21 solid tracks. It’s a mix of live cuts and studio tracks, history lessons and funny skits, exposing the dark underbelly of a dirty industry and giving love where it’s due. T3 calls out fakes and liars in “The Last Straw” and “Snakes,” and on “The Truth” he breaks down his Toronto screwface frustrations over a quick, finger-snapping ditty. He lets loose the party vibe on “Tribute to Benzo,” a tune that could be huge with a live backing band, and the Simahlak-produced “Under Pressure” is a smooth, classic shout. A Monolith posse cut and "Screwface Slow Jamz,” where T3 shows off his R&B singing chops, add that little extra something to the mix. Torontonians and screwfaces everywhere, take note — this man is talking to you. - EXCLAIM
“Theo3 charismatically wove through cuts, some off DJ Serious 's latest knocker, Cold Tea, his vocal tones sharp and those illmatic beats booming from the venue's near-perfect sound system.” - NOW magazine

Have you ever listened to a song and stopped everything youre doing? Time becomes a mere formality and lifes immediacy filters away as you transcend into a state of musically induced bliss. Emcee Theology 3 never snapped out of that inspired comfort provided by the likes of blues legends Bobby Bland, Buddy Guy and Albert Collins alongside Hip Hop storytellers like Big Daddy Kane, Boogie Down Productions and Rakim. Those vivid compositions laid the foundation for the free flowing and reality driven brand of lyricism which Theo 3 invokes to this day.
Toronto emcee Theology 3 burst onto the Canadian Hip hop landscape with his first 12" release,"It's Ovah" distributed by Arlington ave. entertainment. Having climbed the independent vinyl charts in Toronto and Montreal respectively, the 2000 release gained critical acclaim in Peace and Pound magazine while propelling Theology 3 into soundtrack work (Concrete Wave on OLN), t.v. appearances (U8tv.com, Much on Demand) and a host of successful showcases in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Buffalo. Unforgettable appearances on several Canada wide compilations from 2002 onwards laid the groundwork for the plethora of releases and critical praise that was to follow.
Fast forward to 2004, with the independent release of "the Screwface Capital mix c.d." and various releases alongside world renowned d.j. and producer Dj Serious, Theology 3 continued to elevate beats and rhymes beyond the status quo with his innovative style of "conscious battling". Easily able to mix unbelievable punch lines with potent social commentary in a unique and ever changing flow, Theology 3 has earned worldwide praise from the likes of Urb magazine, Allhiphop.com, Exclaim, Hip Hop Connection (U.K.) and Hiphopsite.com to name a few. Theo3s feature on the Dj Serious produced double A side 12" with hip hop legend Masta Ace charted for extended periods of time (ughh.com, earshot college radio charts) and propelled Theology 3 into the Worldwide marketplace with 3 critically acclaimed songs on the 2005 DJ Serious/ Maple music distributed album COLD TEA.
In 2006, a highly anticipated collaboration with the phenomenal production team TONE MASON (Fantasia, Talib Kweli, Rochester, Choclair, Brass Munk) produced the first single off of the renowned TIME ep. Fully mixed and mastered by Michael Blaow Plante from World Rydah studios (Mayhem Morearty, Rochester), the sharp lyrics and lavish soundscapes took the listener on an auditory ride not to be missed. With a #6 chart placement in NOW magazines year end BEST of 2006 Toronto music rundown and fantastic reviews of the TIME EP in Pound, Exclaim and various other national publications, theres never been a better TIME to shine. Theology 3 is ready to take Canadian Hip Hop to the next level with respect, knowledge and raw talent to match. Its TIME!
