On Theo’s debut EP, "Soundsystem," he’s set out to do one thing: define himself. Or at least try. As the product of a racially and culturally mixed family, this has perhaps been one of his biggest challenges. For all of his 23 years, Theo has been walking a fine line between cultures and races, trying to find balance in a world that all too often encourages division. “My father’s Jamaican and my mother’s American, so I guess you could say I’m a mixture. In my family we have different races and cultures, but we’re ‘one’ still…” Though this mixture has at times brought resistance and pain, Theo considers it a blessing to be who he is: “I try to be a bridge… to seek unity.”

With Soundsystem, Theo has found this unity by fusing hip-hop, soul, and acoustic music with a fierce reggae root. Drawing from influences as diverse as Bob Marley, Damian Marley, Wyclef Jean, and Ben Harper, Theo has forged his own unique sound to express his lyrics of love, social consciousness and peace. Along with his band, The Burning Root Band, Theo is touring all throughout California, laying down roots as he spreads his music and message.
