The One JP

Once a homeless man from Jackson, Mississippi, Mr. Jason Patrick better known as The One JP started out his Hip Hop journey beatboxing for his brother's rap group The Republic of Rock in Jr. High school. When the group decided to call it quits a year later, JP broke off into his own direction, still hungry for Hip Hop, and still beatboxing for other rappers, but also building up his skills as an equally talented rapper and producer himself whose sound can ride in cool company alongside Ice Cube, Tupac, and Outkast but with his own distinct flow and presence on the mic. After years of ups and downs financially, and a short time in the penal system, JP finally got some traction to his dreams when he opened up for then up and comers Tupac Shakur and Brand Nubians. But it was short lived as another stumbling block sent him back to jail again, slowing down his dreams even more and almost derailing his entire future. But the down time gave him time to think and put his life in perspective. It was at this point JP decided to take some time off from Hip Hop, retool his image, and return to the game he loved with an all new focus and determination. And in 1994, just 3 years after moving to Austin, Texas, he started his own production company called Ghetto Mass Productions, the production arm of his indie label Missinglink Recordings, based in Austin. Run entirely by JP himself, this base of operations has become the launching pad for his music and other artists he plans to sign to the label. So far on the Missinglink imprint, JP has released 2 full length CD's and 6 singles to various music retail outlets and online music hubs to date, with sales logging stateside and overseas and songs placed with shows on MTV, TBS and Showtime. And with his 3rd full length studio album on the way, in addition to his official documentary about his journey to this point in Hip Hop, The man simply known as The One JP is out to make his story something worth remembering.
