Bio

It started as something to pass the time until founding members Evan Murray and Matthew Muckenthaler found "real" bands to play in. As time passed, it grew into something much more. The Only Survivors started as Distance Is Safety in late 2005, enduring the usual breaks and member changes involved with most bands as they struggle to get started, grow, and discover their place in the world. Over the course of the last 3 years, through all of the delays and changes, The Only Survivors began to develop a true heart. With the end (or what seemed to be the end) of every chapter, something better and unexpected was always waiting. It would seem that just as time shapes people, it shapes the mold of a family and tends to bring you home again, back to where you belong. Now equipped with a strong sense of family and direction, The Only Survivors are ready break into KC with a fresh sound and start. Our influences range through anything from Brand New to The Devil Wears Prada to Death Cab for Cutie to Sigur Ros. We are equipped with open minds and let them wander into twists and turns while standing a progressive, post-hardcore, energetic and always melodically passionate ground.
