The Orange Velvets play reverbed out 60’s garage rock with fashionably fuzzy guitars, male/female vocals, and pre-recorded white noise. They’re lead by American songwriter, Jesse Lurie, who has written over 200 songs. Their brand new record “Fuzz, Beautiful Fuzz” sounds like a cross between The Vaselines and The Stooges.

The band was formed in August of 2005 when Lurie met drummer Brian Evans on craigslist. The duo soon recorded a demo at Nerdbox Studios in San Diego and recorded “The Orange Velvets EP” in the spring of 2006.  They began performing later that year. In 2007 and the band recorded their first full length record, “Songs for Sarah”.  The song “Radio Girl” appeared on an ourstage.com compilation CD.

The band added singer/tambourinist Erin Cory in the summer of 2008 and at one point had as many as seven members before paring back to a three-piece. In 2009 the trio recorded their second full length record, “Fuzz, Beautiful Fuzz”, a lo-fi, fuzzed out garage rock album that was recorded primarily on Lurie’s 4-track cassette player.

Cory left the Orange Velvets in late 2009 and the band now uses a mannequin who holds a tape recorder that plays pre-recorded noise during live performances. Lurie and Evans continue to move forward and are currently recording 2 separate EPs: a children’s EP called “M is W Upside Down”, and a 60’s style bluesy rock EP called "the Sun, the Stars, the Moon, and Everything Else in the Sky".  Both will be released in 2010.
