Bio

Rock entertainment that means business. Drawn together by a love of filthy guitars, driving drums, emotional vocals and all things that make music real, this is The Orchard. Enthusiastic winners of the 2013 National Campus Band Competition (Australia), their debut EP has been released and is now available for purchase from their website and can be downloaded from all good online retailers.

A product from the mind of front-man and songwriter Sean Thomas, The Orchard's music is a melting pot of hard and progressive rock through to jazz and blues. Those who have listened to their recordings and live performances will find something both familiar and unalike in their music. Absconding a genre-lock is one of The Orchards main goals. Not wanting to be classed as any particular sub-genre of rock and roll, their music often cuts back and forth between several conventions of modern rock styles.

The Orchards self-titled debut EP has recently been released under their own supervision in both physical and digital form. Including popular triple j Unearthed hit Shouldve Known Better and crowd favourite Rain, the EP provides a brief but poignant first impression of the bands music. Not wanting the first record to be any shorter on quality, producer/engineer and close friend Jared Adlam was brought on board by the band to help capture each members performance and create a great sounding record. The finished product was eagerly anticipated by fans and sales opened in early September.

The band hails from the sunny Gold Coast of Queensland, but regularly play in Brisbane and surrounding areas. Some of the venues The Orchard frequent include The Tempo Hotel, Surfers Paradise Beergarden, and Griffith Universitys Uni Bar. At the Miami Shark Bar, the band was privileged enough to play in support at the Gold Coast stop of Your Favorite Enemies (CA) multinational More than Noise and Make-Believes tour. The Orchard has also filled support slots for Shinobi and Burning Brooklyn.

The band formed in the late weeks of 2012 when the band members were introduced through the Queensland Conservatoriums Bachelor of Popular Music course. From there, they hit the ground running, rehearsing, writing, hunting gigs and beginning EP pre-production. Within four months, the band had played a multitude of gigs and had finished tracking their debut EP. Before the release of their EP in early September, The Orchard entered the National Campus Band Competition and went on to win in the national final during mid-October.

With an EP release behind them, The Orchard plan to continue writing new material and strive to polish their sound and individuality as a group.

"Incredible live show finally a band that has balls!"  Basil Cook, Head of Contemporary Labels at ABC Music
