Bio

You’re in a crowded concert hall on the north side of Atlanta; the anxious crowd is starting to get restless. The curtains to the stage begin to open, letting out the rumble of a Freight Train followed by the thunder of the kick drum. The lights awakening with every beat build up to the entrance of the singer/ guitarist front man. He casually strolls around the stage bouncing to the beat and then to the center stage microphone where he takes a deep breath and belts out his first note. The bass guitar, keyboards, and guitar join the percussion in a head bobbing melody taking you on a ride through brilliant sax solos, an aggressive acoustic guitar style, potent percussion, hard punching bass guitar, and bountifully texturized vocals, leaving you wanting more. You’ve just experienced the best pop/ rock band in Atlanta. “The music definitely has merit…” says Scott Mikell, A&R for Warner Brothers Records, and the band is determined to take that music to the masses.

After 5 years the band has just released it’s first major independent record entitled, “I’m Listening”. F.L.O.W. has always been a show-based outfit, so naturally the guys are going to tour in support of their new release along with national distribution. A southeastern college tour is in the works along with plenty of hometown shows in the metro Atlanta area.

With over 300 shows under their belts, these guys are serious about their performances. “It’s the reason we create our music… so we can perform it”, says front man Scott Denver Lee. He’s been a singer/ songwriter for ten years and he formed F.L.O.W. in 1997. Scott had been performing acoustically in the Atlanta area for four years prior to putting together the band. Kevin Jones is an original member of F.L.O.W. and has been playing the drums since he was a kid. Kevin has been heralded as one of the best drummers in Atlanta. Brian Keith joined the band in 1999 on the bass guitar. Brian, like Scott was raised in a musical family. Both guys agree that a large percentage of their respective talents are definitely genetic. Keyboard/ saxophonist I-Rock finalized F.L.O.W. ‘s sound in 2000. I-Rock was a part of the early projects of Ed Roland and Lajon Witherspoon, front men of Atlanta based super bands Collective Soul and Sevendust, along with past experiences such as opening for big name acts like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Violent Femmes, and The Producers.

Comparisons to Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, and Counting Crows come frequently but the sound that comes from this talented quartet is unique and emotionally driven. F.L.O.W.’s music has been described as melodic pop rock with hints of jazz, blues, bluegrass, and Americana. F.L.O.W.’s performance, affectionately know as “The F.L.O.W. Show ” to the bands ever increasing fan base, is always super powered with tons of energy and passion. The band has informally released an LP in 1998, a 3 song EP in 2000, a 3 song EP in 2001, and a limited edition compilation LP in 2002 and now their first major record in 2003. They all consider their newest release, I’m Listening, to be the groundbreaker for the band. Along with national distribution and a southeastern tour, the band is planning to take their acoustic guitar led brand of rock and roll out west in 2004.

The new record promises success and one of it’s singles, “This I Know (Angel)” has already earned the band a Band of the Year nomination at the New Artist Radio Awards Show as well as reaching the number one spot on their Top 40. The band recently won an Atlanta based Battle of the Bands for radio station 680 The Fan and they are just getting started promoting the new record. “I’m Listening” is destined to put this energetic young band on the map, so keep your ears wide open.
