"The Orphans"

We’re getting back to basics with today’s release. Bringing you an utterly awesome sound is The Orphans, an indy group from New York.

We’re lucky to have their new album Alone running, and from that we’ve selected Land and Come Closer. Land is a great tune, of this there is no doubt, and one of those that have the potential to become very big indeed. Come Closer has a really haunting sound and one that we’ve listened to a lot–how can we not share it with you? London’s voice absolutely soars on this album, the group is tight and the entire thing absolutely rocks.

The Orphans are London (vocals), Mike (guitar), Nic (guitar) Stas (drums) and Gesha (bass): together these guys have a great sound! This album, by the way, was recorded and produced by Roger Fife, and was done in the same studio as White Zombie (the Make Them Die Slowly album), the Ramones (their Brain Drain album) and Sonic Youth. - Radio Free David Blog

"Alone / The Orphans"

Accomplished players lay down powerful and delicate sounds on Alone, The Orphans third disk. London's strong breathy vocals are reminiscent of Concrete Blond's Johnette Napolitano and Gwen Stefani (before she went Hollaback.) Dark themes govern this release as they did on the band's earlier work. The compositions step up this time to add roughly a minute to each thoughtful arrangement. What's most striking about these recordings compared to the previous releases is the overall production value - nothing short of a major label release. The Orphans are coming into their own. - Reviewed by GHOST WRITTEN FOR PETER MAGNOTTA

"The Orphans"

The Orphans - Sometimes overly dark lyrics but always a rocking thud of a groove, their Alone release is full of songs to bang your head along with. And we finally get a chick singer that's not sounding like Joplin or a 5 year old. It's a nice mix right in between - a great rock voice for a female-fronted outfit. - Murphy @ Undiscovered Radio Network

Bio

New line-up, new look, new sound, new tunes. The Orphans take a giant step forward on their new album. With founding member/guitarist Mike looking to diversify The Orphans sound; a denser and more vocally assured band is the result. The most apparent new addition, London brings her strong chops and expressive voice to the proceedings. Sliding somewhere between Janice Joplin and Matthew Bellamy of Muse London gives the band their most visible identity. Together they create a potent and powerful lineup.
The Orphans has successfully peddled their brand of calibrated rock through New Yorkʼs downtown club scene, playing legendary venues as China Club, The Bitter End, Hammerstein Ballroom, and CBGB. They expect to bring their unique sound to a store and club near you.
Our latest gigs included Galapagos Art Space (June'07 and April'08), The Trash Bar (September'07 and May'08), The Bitter End (October'07) and Terminal 5 (May'08)
