"Leakesville native kicks music career into gear with new album"

From Staff Reports
Greene County native Andre Hendrix is gaining notoriety for himself as a record producer in Arizona. Hendrix began his musical career at then Leakesville High School by playing trumpet in the school band. Hendrix is now working with a production group based out of Laveen, Arizona known as The Orphanz.
The production group, headed by Hendrix, has recently released its album The Progression Vol. I featuring well known hip-hop artists such as Babyface, Missy Elliot and El Debarge Jr. The album, available on iTunes and CDBaby is a major accomplishment, according to Hendrix, and the group is looking forward to seeing what response is garnered for the album, he said.
Hendrix said that his upbringing in Greene County and his mother’s, Bennie Jean Hendrix, love for music was what led to his current passion to pursue a career in music.
“My mom listened to a lot of music and had albums always lying around. I was a big Michael Jackson fan and would watch the award shows and knew I wanted to be there,” Hendrix said.
After graduating from LHS in 1983, Hendrix attended JCJC and finally Jackson State University where he was a member of the school’s venerable marching band the Sonic Boom. Still, Hendrix said he knew he wanted to do more and attended the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Arizona to study the inner workings of creating music in a studio.
Hendrix currently works with Third Eye Studios and also submitted records for J Records whose stable of artists include current hit singer Jennifer Hudson.
For Hendrix, the love of music and his ability to express himself through his work is his biggest reward.
“I love the freedom. If I’m having a bad day or something happy in my life I can express those emotions in my music,” he said. - The Greene County Herald
