"Letters From Your Love, The Madman album review."

The Other Side of Morning is a sweet-to-the-taste, rare breed of rock. The primary reason people are turned away from distorted guitars and projected vocals nowadays, at least as I'm led to believe, is that the majority of so-called "rock" music is more often than not lacking musicality and thriving in the area of redundancy. Commonly, also, the power chords and simple progressions are based loosely around the vaguely catchy melodic vocal lines and empty lyricism. On the contrary, once in a blue moon a band like this comes along and possesses ability to clarify the difference between simply writing rock songs and making well-constructed music. Letters From Your Love, The Madman is a very diverse album. The guitars aren't always distorted and in-your-face... hell, the four aren't even hesitant to mic-up an acoustic, creating a nice, warm depth. There's no over-compression of the tracks, leaving the space wide open for a vast range of dynamic quality, instrumental and vocal panning included. Perhaps my favorite thing about this band is their use of creative melodies, and the pleasant vocal harmonies capture the emotions necessary to support the tonal changes, instrumentation, and individuality of parts. throughout. The bright keys add a fun vibe, sometimes creating a southern blues sound, others, more of a funky, rotary organ tone. Each song has its own characteristics that make it great. Rock music hasn't seen this style of songwriting since the early 90's, when bands like Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam ruled the world. However, I couldn't possibly classify this band in that category. The Other Side of Morning has taken flavors of those raw sounds with countless other imaginable influences and formulated a distinctly different, new breed of rock. I couldn't help but notice the similarity between "The Other Side of Morning" and "Dark Side of the Moon". The song "After the Fury" features a nostalgic organ and high vocal "oohs" that are to an extent reminiscent of "The Great Gig in the Sky". Listen for yourself. Maybe you, too, will encounter something you deem fresh and sustainable in this ever-changing world of artistic expression. - Kyle Patrick - groopease.com
