Bio

The Oxygen Band is the fruition of a culture; The overflow of passionate youth; An expression of what a collective heart.

6-piece act 'The Oxygen Band' is the fruition of a young adults ministry at the Elim Cathedral of Hope in Christchurch, NZ with a distinctive style of original music.

The Oxygen Band are a bunch of energetic, fun and purpose fuelled young musicians intent on breaking new ground in the church worship band scene.
Not content with singing songs, following formula, the Oxygen Band were driven by their passion for following Jesus and worshipping him in a style which represented their personality, musical influences and youth church culture to ignite others in their faith, which is how the rock worship band was born.

Over the years Oxygen band has evolved from a weekly, Sunday band and while band members have changed, the backbone of Oxygen’s success has been the driving influence of founding member, Mark Palalagi.

Mark Palalagi, a multi talented artist in his own right and renowned in Christian band circles for his involvement in rock band “Satellite” which has played at venues such as Parachute and Westpac Arena and post-hardcore rock “Mona Vale Falls” (which has done nationwide shows and played at Parachute); Mark seamlessly blends across genres and musical diversity as a highly accomplished drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitar musician and vocalist.

The Oxygen Band has skilled musicians and vocalists who write and play their own original songs, having produced a free downloadable Christmas EP in 2010 and releasing the 'Blueprints EP' this November 2011.

They play mainly in the local churches and ministries around Canterbury and are now seeking to bring their passion for worship by delivering an experience with intensity and authentic sensitivity rarely seen amongst New Zealand worship bands.

They are one to watch as they take youth worship to new heights.
