The Painkillers are a well established and critically acclaimed local band that have seen ARIA winner James Baker re-emerge as a force in the local alternative music scene. The Painkillers’ two previous albums are celebrated as garage nuggets, with Kim Salmon recently citing “Drunk on a Train” as the best Australian album ever. They have released two previous albums to substantial critical acclaim, Drunk on a Train and Lover Cancer. Their third album, Feel the Pain, due out in mid 2011 through Off the Hip Records, is described by the band as their finest recording yet.
The Painkillers won the WAMI award for best punk/hardcore act in 2011. James Baker is an ARIA and WAMI hall-of-famer.
