The Pale Figures are a rock band from Chicago. The band features the song writing of Chicago based musician - Aaron Lindstrom and New York based singer songwriter Cory Larson.
In 2006, Lindstrom contacted his old friend and label mate Cory Larson to talk to him about an idea he had for a recording project. Lindstrom called Larson from Sun Studio in Memphis TN., to ask him if he would be interested in recording an album at the famed Sun Studios in Memphis…Larson agreed and the plans were set into motion.
Over a period of two years Larson and Lindstrom traded music through the mail. The songs that the two were writing had to meet a certain standard, they had to be simple and they needed to be written with the theme and spirit of Memphis in mind.
In 2006 Lindstrom moved to Chicago and formed the band The Pale Figures with drummer - Doug Woods and started making plans to Record. The songs were written and the plans were set, The Pale Figures contacted Sun Studio to book the studio time only to find out that the studio wasn’t recording albums at the time. Lindstrom called some friends in Memphis and they pointed him in the direction of Sam Phillips Recording Studio and engineer Roland Janes (formerly of the Jerry Lee Lewis Band). The Pale Figures contacted Janes, sent him some of the preproduction and Roland agreed to take the project. Studio dates were set, Larson flew to Chicago to rehearse the tunes for 2 days and the band met the next weekend in Memphis. The band recorded 11 songs over a three day period, the collection is called the Memphis Sessions.
In addition, The Pale Figures thought it would be interesting to contrast the Memphis sound with the Chicago sound. The long lived rivalry between Chicago’s Chess Records and Memphis’s Sun Studio inspired The Pale Figures to expand the project to include the recording of 7 songs in Chicago at Electrical Audio with Steve Albini. The same rules applied as with the Memphis sessions -the songs had to be written in line with the engineering skills and reputation of Albini. The result of The Pale Figure’s efforts is a CD containing 19 songs the record is titled - Memphis and Chicago. The album was released on the Lindstrom brother’s record label – Peacefist Records.
The Band Consists of the Following Musicians:
Cory Larson – Guitars and Vocals
Aaron Lindstrom –Guitars and Vocals

Rabbit on the Run

Written By: Aaron Lindstrom

Rabbit on the Run

Verse 1
You Really had us all fooled back than.
Hide behind you collar like you were a road scholar.
We never heard the children scream.
We never heard them holler.
As you stood in front of them saying bow down to the father.

Chorus
No where left to run
You’ve got the Rabbit on the Run
You will never get ahead that way
Exorcise the Demons today

Verse 2

You lied to everyone and betrayed a simple trust
Based on selfish principles, manipulation greed and lust.
In the end we see you as you are down on your luck
It is always seems the same your just another corrupt f*#K.

Chorus

No where left to run
You’ve got the Rabbit on the Run
You will never get ahead that way
Exorcise the Demons today

Solo

Bridge

Don’t Stand there wondering what happened to you that day.
Forget about it drop the gun and walk away.

Chorus

No where left to run
You’ve got the Rabbit on the Run
You will never get ahead that way
Exorcise the Demons today

Portrait

Portrait / By Cory Larson
Verse 1
E A
I admire your pencil portrait
An unfinished profile that was nearly rendered
So long ago when we were only dating
Youth was caught in it’s tangled lines
Divining a future beyond your expression
A thin lead road that leads me to you
Verse 2 (instrumental section prior to vocals)
E A
A boy, a girl with your complexion
A house, a dog, tearing up the yard
And pictures and paintings of friends and family
And a portrait of you hanging on the wall
Chorus
E A
I didn’t really realize ‘til your eyes met mine
B
What a mess a boy and girl could make
Solo
Verse 3
E A
In the end, tucked beneath the world
Side by side, singing to the soil
A tune that sounds like a friend or family
And that portrait of you, hanging on a wall
Chorus
E A
I didn’t really realize ‘til your eyes met mine
B
What a mess a boy and girl could make
Bridge
A E
And now nothing can erase
A E B
The lines that define you
Double Chorus
E A
I didn’t really realize ‘til your eyes met mine
B
What a mess a boy and girl could make
Were at home in the dirt and leaves
Dirty children beneath the trees
And pencil portrait that prove you were younger (2x)
Outro ( X)

You Are a Star

Written By: Aaron Lindstrom

You are a Star / by Aaron Lindstrom
Verse1

I bought an old car, a 58
We fixed it up, isn’t it great
Headed down south
Away from it all
We saw trains
And Followed a Star

Chorus

You are a star
You light my way
I’ll follow you
You are the one

Break

Verse 2

I will escape
Into your eyes
Beyond the lies
And alibis
You are the one
You set me free
You are finally here with me

Solo

Chorus

You are a star
You light my way
I’ll follow you
You are the one

Memphis Air

Written By: Aaron Lindstrom

Memphis Air / No One can take your place
by Aaron Lindstrom
Verse 1

Asleep I feel beneath, the setting sun

Underneath a tree you were there with me
As I awoke the moon was in your hair
All I could do was stop and stare

Verse 2
Reflections in the water
Remind me of the past
Sounds within the distance
Just don’t seem to last
Train heads out of town
Headed for the west
I still believe that it is the best

Chorus

I see the flame is burning strong
In the cold night Memphis Air
No one would ever take you place
No one could ever take you place

Solo over verse

Bridge

I awoke this morning and was feeling that I was so far away
While I lay there I thought to myself, I have seen some better days
I see the snow on mountain tops and wonder how much more there is to life
People pass us by in cars just like the friends we will never see again
You’ll never see again
Chorus

I see the flame is burning strong
In the cold night Memphis Air
No one would ever take you place
No one could ever take you place

Adam and Eve

Written By: Cory Larson

Adam and Eve / By Cory Larson
Verse 1

Look at all those children
Look at all those boys and girls
Oh see how they shine
She looks a little like you, he looks a bit like me
Were all pulled from the same line
Verse 2

Spent a little time here
Wasted a little time there
Oh what else could be done
You’ve got all your changes
You know that I’ll have mine
Oh what will become
Chorus

I anticipate, they will be great

Instrumental break down
Verse 3

There is a weight that comes with being
A strangeness about this place
That we can’t seem to define
We are all future and no past
The old you in a photograph
Is no longer here
And if I never need a reason
Just to keep on breathing
It’s you at the edge of the bed
Verse 4
Cause in the thick honey of summer
Your garden is just like a lover
Seeds its way into the night
Chorus
I’ll be your Adam, you can be my eve
Verse 5
In the garden next to you, we wander through the forbidden fruit.
Oh baby what are we suppose to do, I crossed over into a dream, found little meaning to anything, but man it was sweet. We made a life out of vague ideas, who knows where that will lead us, let’s hang around and see.
Chorus
I anticipate, that it will be great.

The Sun Will Come Again

Written By: Aaron Lindstrom

The Sun Will Come Again / by Aaron Lindstrom

Instrumental Introduction

Verse 1

Here comes the rain again and the sun is tucked behind
Giant clouds that fill the sky
Looks like another day inside
Oh I wish knew the way to change the weather on days like this
I could really use some time in sun watching the waves roll in

Chorus

Some day soon the sun will come again and I hope that you’ll be happy then my friend

Solo to Verse

Verse 2

Lightening is crashing across the entire sky
As the thunders getting louder the dog thinks he going to die
So do I as I look at the things I packed the night before
Packed up in a pile in front of door

Some day soon the sun will come again and I hope that you’ll be happy then my friend

Yes I hope that you’ll be happy then my friend
