We'd ask if we could rather use those 30 seconds to quickly get on stage, tune up, plug in and play.
Music without feeling is just noise, and a description to convey any band without a least a little preview is just 30 seconds....
Still, The Paperboats are a band, with a voice like crushed glass wrapped in velvet, and an energy that makes you look and listen and choose their music as the soundtrack to better times.....

Biography

The Paperboats are a band from the UK/Portugal.

Formed by front man and main songwriter Paul Da Silva (Vocals/Guitar) originally from London, the band was born in 2009 after Paul’s invite to open up for The Script in Portugal, still as a solo artist promoting the release of his independent E.P N.E.W.S.
After being introduced to Christian Ferraz (bass), Pedro Menano (Drums), Andre Branquinho (Guitar), and resurrecting songs he had in hand to be played with a full lineup, Paul knew there was something there than just sun and song away from home."

...I always say it's better to be a brave fool than a wise coward, so I just decided to see what could happen when I met these guys..." Paul reveals.
Without too much convincing, he remained in Portugal for some time practically living under their roofs and quickly writing more songs as the band gigged extensively winning a large fan base for the live show.

After some months of playing and after selling some beloved gear, the band earned the means to happily get themselves over to London. This time Paul provided the roof and the band started recording the debut album Surviving The Flood at The Voodoo Lounge studios with producer Thomas Johansen.
"...we decided to dive in and do all of this ourselves, getting the album recorded, the video for the single, in essence get everything cooked up on our own instead of trying to approach any labels first...that time you have at the beginning as a band is a luxury, where you decide and share each step, and now that we've lived through all of that we're better off as a team...we're not ones to stand still waiting for things to happen, so we plan on releasing the album independently after the summer. Hopefully we'll get interest from a label who can work with us, it's a welcomed bonus to what we now have at the ready..."
After having the album mastered at Sterling Sound Studios New York, the boys quickly returned to Europe over the moon with the record and eager to be where they best feel at home; on stage.

Curses is the debut single from the band with a voice described as “crushed glass wrapped in velvet…”

Curses

Written By: Paul da Silva

Been a change of plan
I want to wake up somewhere new
Instead of always saving my own skin
With a sleight of hand
I played this trick on everyone
It always starts with me and ends with you
So stay safe and well, and keep your heart distracted

Was the cut too soon?
Or was I indecisive?
I battle with my thoughts but I’m not sure
I remind the muse
Of the curses that she started
It’s time to practise feeling like I’m cured
So stay safe and well, and keep your heart distracted

Runaway from the curses that I’m in
And sing a song for the soon departed
Staying brave take a leap of faith into the unexplored
Walk away from the faces I have seen
Have to finish what we started
Maybe one day my luck will have you walk in through the door

Been a change of plan
A change of plan
I need to feel the change in something soon
Yeah a change of plan
A change of plan
Oh how I want to wake up somewhere new

Runaway from the curses that I’m in
And sing a song for the soon departed
Staying brave take a leap of faith into the unexplored
Walk away from the faces I have seen
Have to finish what we started
Maybe one day my luck will have you walk in through the door

Built on Ruins (no excuses)

Written By: Paul da Silva

Why have you come here with this weight on your mind?
Sometimes you win; sometimes you lose at a price
A slave to the daytime, till the church chimes twelve o’clock you’re waking up
I sometimes get so lost in me, I just don’t see
Your kiss can change a morning
Same kiss that changed a man
We’ve been the best of enemies
To become the worst of friends
I sold in mint condition
But you knew that when you paid
Now you’re following traditions
And exhuming our remains
No excuse
I can’t help defending her
We build on ruins
To be in love with love
And not with us

So put yourself in my shoes and walk in them a while
See how far they get you, before they break your smile
I’m warm in the interior of the heavens you’ve designed
But now my feet are cold and curious, to walk beyond the line

No excuse
you can’t help forgiving me
We build on ruins
To be in love with love
And not with us

I’m living past the years that my heroes never reached
I’m running out of heroes, I learn better than I teach
When you’ve as many words as I, you find nothing says it best
Say nothing in reply, say nothing on request

No excuse
No excuses
No excuse
To be in love with love
To be in love
To be in love with love

Time travel & other short stories

Written By: Paul da Silva

Hey it’s a pleasure to meet you
No, the pleasures mine
While your behaving like Jekyll
I’ll behave like Hyde
And I don’t know if you know me
Better than I know myself
Your face is vaguely familiar
But it’s stuck on someone else

And I’m beginning to notice
All the little things
I’m losing track of the focus
And my concentrations dim
And I don’t know if I know you
Better than you know yourself
Well either way we’re together
And together we cry help

I think we’re travelling through time
Turn on the gravity light
If it keeps you up in the middle of the night
Is it all in your mind?

I don’t know where we are now
And you forget your place
Cause every hole you end up in
Is a crowded waste of space
And all the words that you mumble
Are a puzzle of their own, love
This feeling’s made up of riddles
And in the middle I find Gods

I think we’re travelling through time
Turn on the gravity light
If it keeps you up in the middle of the night
Is it all in your mind?
