The Phantoms

The Phantoms

BandRockPunk

Ever heard of "big-beat" music? No, not Fatboy Slim. In the 60s, the "big-beat" became a code for the Polish rock'n'roll music, as the term "rock" has been banned by the commie government. From these influences mixed with rust and dirt, The Phantoms are born.

Biography

Why should I even care about this band?
Because it's genuine, sincere and doesn't sound like a ringtone from a circa
2002 mobile phone, while sadly most of today's music does. We don't like things
meant to be nice. We don't like things meant to be fashionable. We like rust,
bruises and real emotion. We like Garage, Rock and Roll and Polish Big-Beat,
and that's the music we want to play.

Big-beat? Is this some kind of Fatboy Slim from the East?
The short answer: no.
The longer answer: decades before Fatboy Slim took his first pill, Polish
musicians were playing Big-Beat music, though it wasn't the thing that comes by
this name today. Back in the 1960s, Soviet grasp on Poland was as powerful as
ever – and „degenerate” Rock and Roll music was the last thing the Soviets
would like young Poles to dance to. So, the bands coined the term "Big-Beat" to
use instead of „Rock and Roll”. The Polish bureaucracy could pretend they don't
see any problem with that, the Soviets were busy enough arming their nuclear
silos, and so the kids could play their guitars unbothered. In result, our most
cherished music was created. Google Karin Stanek or Czeslaw Niemen if you want
to hear it for yourself. Add some modern edge and you will have The Phantoms'
sound (well, add a lot of it – we're not some kind 60s tribute band, oh no!).
