TPUA formed in April of 2005 in Palm Bay, Florida, when Josh, Peter, Eddie, and Trevor, old friends from Lake Wales, decided to get seek a new drummer for their band "The Usual". They invited Ian to play drums to complete the five piece. It was then that they took on the new moniker "The Pick Up Artist".
TPUA is a band consisting of mature musicians who know how to write music from the heart and entertain an audience performing every night like it's thier last. Longing for the days when rock music really rocked and made you feel good, TPUA has vowed to blend the spirit of 80's metal with the emotionally driven lyrics and guitar antics of today's punk and hardcore headliners.
These five music industry vets have thousands of miles of prior touring experience and hundreds of hours of studio experience between them. Their past musical exploits garnered them the opportunity to open for the following national and regional acts: Switchfoot, 311, Glassjaw, Anberlin, Sixpence None The Richer, MxPx, [minus], Project 86, Darwins Waiting Room, Norma Jean, Superfly Rodeo, Yellowcard, Endo, Nonpoint, Full Devil Jacket, Veruca Salt, Stavesacre, Underoath, Blindside.
Some modern influences include The Used, Thursday, Story of the Year, Atreyu, Taking Back Sunday, Coheed & Cambria, My Chemical Romance, Finch, and AFI. 1980's heavy metal and 90's alternative rock are big influences in their sound as well.
In the Spring of 2006, after just one year together, TPUA was chosen from a field of over 1000 bands, to play the Florida Music Fest (FMF06) in Orlando.
