The Pink Socks

Exploring all sides of the musical spectrum, The Pink Socks have formed and reformed over the past six years of their existence. Fusioning, progressicizing, funkifying, jazzifying, and reshaping their music as they go. ...Max "Spike" Currier (Bass), Adam "Slide This Way" Lipsky (Keys), and Perry Dripps (Vocals/guitars) grew up on the island of Martha's Vineyard together. Currier took over on bass and Lipsky came pounding in on the keys during a late night practice session. The tunes flowed, but there was one problem; they needed a beat that would make the music really groove. With only a week before the band's debut at a Battle of the Bands competition at the infamous Hot Tin Roof on Martha's Vineyard (now "Outerland"), Dripps contacted Jake Nochimow (Drums) on a whim. With only a few days to practice, THE PINK SOCKS came to rise. All four members clicked, contributing all of their very different musical backgrounds to a new and different sound. Currier holds tight with Nochimow's kick, syncopating and holding a steady groove. Nochimow colors the music with his entire artillery of spattering snares, tight break-beats and sizzling cymbals. Lipsky and Dripps color the soundscapes. Lipsky draws from a plethora of sources ranging anywhere from that of Thelonious Monk and Joshua Redman, to straight up funk, to something that is completely his own. Lipsky's keys fuse together with Dripps' echo-ambient chords, low driving riffs, and funked up solos. Although primarily a four piece, the band performs with special guests such as alto saxophone player, Tyler Mehegan and alto vocalist Nadia Shutkufski. To date, they have released a four track EP entitled "Seeing Stars" (2005 Dripp Records) and they are planning to release their first ever full length live LP, "DON'T LET YOUR HEAD HIT THE CACTUS: LIVE," (2007 Dripp Records) this fall. Although the band primarily plays at small venues on Martha's Vineyard, they are intending to promote their new album in the Greater Boston Area and beyond over the next year.
