Biography

The Pipe Dreams met each other in Chicago. Derek Simon and Cody Shear attended the same high school, and their passion for writing and playing music drew them together. They sought out virtuoso drummer Alec Levy, a classically trained percussionist with a passion for rock and roll. Soon Jonah Shear, Cody's younger brother, joined the fold on keyboards and synthesizers, adding a third unique voice to the band's distinct vocal blend. The Pipe Dreams are inspired by greats such as The Beatles and The Band, incorporating several lead vocal lines into their songs, which have elements of funk and reggae but can only be called rock and roll. The Pipe Dreams play in their hometown as often as they can. They enjoy passing out their music for free and have more written material than they know what to do with. Combine that with a passion for playing classic rock covers with funky twists, and a Pipe Dreams show is irresistible. Concert highlights include playing at Blottopia X last year in South Elgin, as well as memorable performances at Subterranean and Reggie's Rock Club.

Set List

A Pipe Dreams setlist will vary from show to show, but it usually contains the band's more energetic original songs. These are mixed with some recognizable classic rock covers, such as songs by The Beatles and Sublime. They enjoy morphing classic Beatles songs into funk or reggae numbers that catch the crowd's attention and bring them to the dance floor.
