"Up & Coming: The Pleading"

With an explosive energy that nearly belies their deeply personal lyrical content, The Pleading has proven to be one of Nashville's most exciting up-and-coming live acts. Their guitar-driven, rhythmically-heavy musical style supports the muscular lead vocals that deliver the bold, always thought-provoking, and ultimately inspiring lyrics. This is a band that earns its stripes by asking their audience to THINK about what's being sung. - McCracken/Reid(Independent Music Review - January, 2008)

Bio

It's hard to believe that The Pleading has existed in its current line up for less than a year. With vocalist Jon Owens, guitarist Justin Peaytt, bassist Jeff Strader, and drummer Brandon Sather, The Pleading is breaking into the Nashville scene with an intense rock sound unlike anything in the area.

Jon Owens comes to The Pleading with more than 20 years of musical experience. His love for music began when he was five years old and has never waned. Jon began performing as a rock vocalist in 1985, and joined his first band, Revolver, in the Pittsburgh area in 1987. While in Pittsburgh, he explored many types of music, everything from acoustic rock and techno to performing as Jesus Christ in a rock opera in front of thousands of people. His big break came in 1996 when he formed the band Torrent with several friends and relocated to southern California. In the midst of growing popularity, demand, and major label interest, two of the members left the band, and Jon moved back to Pittsburgh where he formed Godplead and later relocated with that project to his current home in Nashville, Tennessee.

Justin Peaytt and Brandon Sather first collaborated together in high school, when they formed Edge of Infinity, in which Justin played bass guitar. The band played numerous shows in the Clarksville area, but eventually broke up due to the loss of both guitarists. Justin switched to lead guitar and continued playing with Brandon, actively looking for more band members. After a long search, they found a new guitarist and vocalist and began working on new material. After the singer decided the band wasn't his top priority, the group began the seemingly eternal search for a vocalist. They found another singer, renamed the group Reign by Reason, and after working up new material, the group began playing shows in the Clarksville area. Before long, the vocalist curse caught up with them again, and the singer left. In a twist of fate, Justin and Brandon found Jon on myspace in the Spring of 2007, and it seemed to be a perfect fit.

Jeff Strader is the newest member of the band, joining in July 2007 as bass player. Although he's only been playing for two years, that is no indication of his talent, drawing his influence from bands such as The Used and Staind. His love for music is unmistakably apparent in his performances.

With the members now in line, and the puzzle nearly complete, the band put out the call to the fans of both bands to find a new name and identity to go along with the new music they were creating together, and The Pleading was born.

As The Pleading forged it’s niche, its members began to grow and write together as a family, and although they come from different backgrounds and have varying degrees of musical experience, they have successfully formed a group that is going to take the Southeast Music Scene by surprise. - Tiffany Youhouse
