The Pleading

The Pleading

BandAlternativeRock

With an explosive energy that nearly belies their deeply personal lyrical content, The Pleading has proven to be one of Nashville's most exciting up-and-coming live acts.

Biography

It's hard to believe that The Pleading has existed in its current line up for less than a year. With vocalist Jon Owens, guitarist Justin Peaytt, bassist Jeff Strader, and drummer Brandon Sather, The Pleading is breaking into the Nashville scene with an intense rock sound unlike anything in the area.

Jon Owens comes to The Pleading with more than 20 years of musical experience. His love for music began when he was five years old and has never waned. Jon began performing as a rock vocalist in 1985, and joined his first band, Revolver, in the Pittsburgh area in 1987. While in Pittsburgh, he explored many types of music, everything from acoustic rock and techno to performing as Jesus Christ in a rock opera in front of thousands of people. His big break came in 1996 when he formed the band Torrent with several friends and relocated to southern California. In the midst of growing popularity, demand, and major label interest, two of the members left the band, and Jon moved back to Pittsburgh where he formed Godplead and later relocated with that project to his current home in Nashville, Tennessee.

Justin Peaytt and Brandon Sather first collaborated together in high school, when they formed Edge of Infinity, in which Justin played bass guitar. The band played numerous shows in the Clarksville area, but eventually broke up due to the loss of both guitarists. Justin switched to lead guitar and continued playing with Brandon, actively looking for more band members. After a long search, they found a new guitarist and vocalist and began working on new material. After the singer decided the band wasn't his top priority, the group began the seemingly eternal search for a vocalist. They found another singer, renamed the group Reign by Reason, and after working up new material, the group began playing shows in the Clarksville area. Before long, the vocalist curse caught up with them again, and the singer left. In a twist of fate, Justin and Brandon found Jon on myspace in the Spring of 2007, and it seemed to be a perfect fit.

Jeff Strader is the newest member of the band, joining in July 2007 as bass player. Although he's only been playing for two years, that is no indication of his talent, drawing his influence from bands such as The Used and Staind. His love for music is unmistakably apparent in his performances.

With the members now in line, and the puzzle nearly complete, the band put out the call to the fans of both bands to find a new name and identity to go along with the new music they were creating together, and The Pleading was born.

As The Pleading forged it’s niche, its members began to grow and write together as a family, and although they come from different backgrounds and have varying degrees of musical experience, they have successfully formed a group that is going to take the Southeast Music Scene by surprise. - Tiffany Youhouse

Lyrics

Fade Away

Written By: Jon C Owens

how my tears are the blood that remembers of you
that i failed to bring peace to your tormented youth
and i spent more time preaching than sharing my life
when i left you in silence alone

to fade away, fade away
i plead for peace despite mistakes i’ve made
fade away

how i told you of love as i practiced disdain
that i bandaged my pride before healing your pain
and i listened in doubt as you threatened your life
when i left you to suffer alone

to fade away, fade away
i plead for peace despite mistakes i’ve made
fade away

all the blindness evolves to the core of the sacred
and they feel not the leaving of the spirit of their god
for replaced they their savior with legalist banter
and abandoned the triune behind righteous facades

Did you speak not of love in the past I remember
Why for now only speak you intolerance and hate
When I need you the most you deny my forever
As you dance, hurling stones, at this victim of fate

Shall I close now my eyes and accept your rejection
And allow vile death to devour betimes
Now begins the mellifluous claret migration
As I’m drained of the blood from a life now denied.

Rest my eyes as I slip to my damned requiescence
Any breath now occluded attempting to cease
And my life slipping off from mortality’s essence
Perhaps now in death shall my spirit find peace.

how i waited so long before seeking the truth
that you took your own life after i spoke to you
and i weep even now many years from that day
when i left you to die all alone

Why

Written By: Jon C Owens

31 years since my life was torn away
left with nothing but the nightmares and the pain
31 years I have suffered for your sin
tortured and tormented
for temptation that i’m trapped in

why do i cry
what is the reason why
why do i hide
keep it bottled up inside
why must i pray
that god would take it all away
why can’t i live
or find it in my heart to forgive

never loved me, and you never said goodbye
when you left my life in hell were you satisfied
never loved me, just a child when you were near
a five year old torn
of his virtues left in tears

why do i cry
what is the reason why
why do i hide
keep it bottled up inside
why must i pray
that god would take it all away
why can’t i live
or find it in my heart to forgive

(why can’t i forgive him)
(god can you forgive me)
(why can’t i forgive him)
(god can you forgive me)

(why can’t I forgive him)
why do I cry
(god can you forgive me)
what is the reason why
(why can’t I forgive him)
why do I hide
(god can you forgive me)
