The Podunks

Introducing to you The Podunks, a highly motivated and energetic three-piece alternative rock band from Statesville, NC, whose influences include the melodic yet powerful riffs of Foo Fighters, and the lyrical content of Ryan Adams.
We are now in the process of scheduling dates to promote our self-titled debut album and to have fun, meet new people, and gain valuable experience performing for our growing fan base. We are currently working on our second album and writing new material. We are highly dedicated to make music that expresses our thoughts and attitudes towards the world we live in. We hope to continue doing what we love and one day be able to make a living writing and performing our music.
It was in early 2006 when Ethan Howard and Dustin Howell decided to form a two-piece rock band as a release to the everyday hassles of school and work. It was decided soon after that the band would be called The Podunks, podunk meaning a small, isolated town with nothing to offer. This name was chosen because of the seemingly insignificance of the bands hometown of Statesville, North Carolina. The two members enjoyed the rewards of making music together and dedicated more and more time to making music until the point that they began to practice everyday. Soon after the start of the band the two members felt it was necessary to add another member and decided to ask longtime friend Dylan Fox to join the band as a bassist. Dylans bass playing took the band to the next level of intensity and provided the rhythm during Ethans solos. With the line-up now complete The Podunks began writing original tunes and had soon written 11 original songs. Rehearsing their repertoire of originals throughout the early months of 2006, The Podunks decided it was time to go into the studio and make a record. After an all-night recording session in June the album tracks were completed, every song being done in one take. During the next two months their debut album was mixed by Allen Rufty, and scheduled to be released at their first gig in August at The Witches Brew in Lincolnton, NC. After the release of the first album the band continued to play shows and are currently writing songs for thier follow up album.
The band is fronted and led by guitarist, singer Ethan Howard. This 17 year old guitarist delivers powerfully with his melodic, hypnotizing verses and aggressive, exploding choruses, building tension and energy within the song. Ethan mixes the influence of the smooth John Mayer, with the intensity of the Foo Fighter to create the style of the band.
Dylan Fox takes the band to the next level with his funky, rhythmatic bass lines, providing the landscape of the song during Ethans solos. The 17 year old bassist combines his influences of Incubus and Tool to create intricate bass lines that keep the song going.
Drummer, Dustin Howell completes the bands line-up with his bold, power-house drumming technique. Dustin mixes the influences of drummers such as Dave Grohl and Danny Carey to provide the rhythm for the songs.
All in all, we hope to continue touring and making music, while making a name for ourselves in the music scene.
