Bio

The Pointer Brothers' band is comprised of Yukon musicians, Gil Benoit, Gordon Policheck, Willie Gordon, George McConkey and Richard Halliday, who have been performing together at the bar, locally known as "The Pit," at the Westminster Hotel in Dawson City, Yukon. These and other musicians in the Pointer’s ‘extended family’ perform at various times and seasons in different combinations. Their music has established a strong appeal to a wide range of music lovers. It includes country, rock, folk and fiddle roots music. Dawson City is located at the confluence of the Klondike and Yukon Rivers, just downriver from the famous Bonanza Creek where a fortune in gold was discovered and is still being mined. Many thousands of miners and prospectors, and now many more travelers and tourists, have passed through here, and there are some that brave the winters. The cold and the closeness that come each winter can bring out the best in people. This has been the spawning ground of the Pointer Brothers. The owner of the Westminster Hotel, Duncan Spriggs, Gil Benoit, and Juno Award winning Bob Hamilton of Old Crow Studios arranged for the production of this second Pointer Brothers album, 'Home On Wheels’. It was recorded and produced at Bob Hamilton's studio in Whitehorse, Yukon. The musicians include some of 'the extended Pointer family - Bob Hamilton, Annie Avery, Larry Rieck, Nathan Tinkham, Lou Benoit, Bruce Bergman, Aylie Sparks, Jimmy Salt, Gene Brown and Kevin Barr. Some of these and others play on occasions with Gil Benoit and the Pointer Brothers in Dawson City and elsewhere in the Yukon as opportunities arise. The songs are mostly original Yukon creations. They are very engaging emotionally, and some are very compelling on the dance floor. These songs came of country, rock and fiddle roots, and some Yukon legends and tales. The band has developed a distinctive character, which reflects their 'home'. As you listen you will hear.
