Bio

The Pop Shivers began in summer 2009 when Bryan Howell began writing songs aimed at drawing on all of his favorite influences from the ‘50s to the present. Fueled by late nights and an ever-expanding record collection, Howell sat down with a guitar and got to work.

With several songs finished, he called upon old friend and bandmate Adara Christine to play drums on demos of a few songs for him to attract other players. Intrigued by what she heard, she wanted in as a full-time member. Finding her mutual tastes, spirited playing, and frequent destruction of snares and drum sticks to his liking, Howell immediately agreed.

The two then set about filling the pieces for a band, and they soon found this to be a shockingly arduous task: instead of finding like-minded musicians, they kept finding half-hearted players who inevitably caused problems if they even showed up at all.

At their wits' end, Howell and Christine spun their wheels for several months, until chancing upon talking to local independent producer Jeff Aderman. Sympathetic to their plight, he brought them into his Fort 325 Productions studio and refused to let them leave until they had their songs down the way they wanted.

With demo in hand, they started playing out and continuing the search for the rest of the band. Bass player Mitch Duncan answered an ad at a nightspot where the band had played only weeks earlier, and within moments of the three playing together for the first time, everything finally fell into place.
