The Premiums

Since their formation in the fall of 2010, The Premiums have maintained a clear focus on performing up-tempo, rhythm-driven funk music to delight audiences around the Midwest. In the process of musical growth, Caleb Nordhaugen (vocals), Kevin Israel (guitar), and Brett Miller (drums) relocated to join bassist Alex Hamberger in Minneapolis in late 2011. The Premiums spent time working as musicians in town and on the road, as the band traveled between the Twin Cities, Green Bay, Milwaukee, Chicago, Iowa City, and Joplin, Missouri. In Minnesota, their dynamic and vigorous shows have made a splash in Bemidji, St. Cloud, and Mankato. Minneapolis veterans New Reb, PB & The Jam, SOAP, and recently More Than Lights employed the high-energy of The Premiums’ funk by inviting the youthful powerhouse group to open their respective shows. While taking a lesson in live musical exploration from jam bands, The Premiums will release their self-titled debut EP in November of 2012.

The Premiums’ self-recorded demos of “Collection Time,” “What the People See,” “The Good,” “A Sailor’s Song,” and “Pulled Apart” are available for streaming at http://soundcloud.com/thepremiums/. The refined and proper debut release The Premiums is set to release just in time for the holidays on November 20. The EP will include two previously unreleased tracks, the aggressive “Bark’s Bite” and the disco funk marathon “Takin’ More Than You Need.”

The Premiums will be touring in the winter and spring of 2013 in support of their self-titled debut and promise to put on a show unlike anything heard in your city before.
