"Rock band set to make its Presence felt"

The Presence comprises Julian Leuzzi, Riley Moore, Dave Lancaster and Mathew McHugh.
EMERGING rock band The Presence is set to launch its breakthrough single tonight but last Saturday the Hornsby Shire natives wowed the crowd at Hornsby Inn.

The band, the headlining act of the evening, came on stage at about 11pm and performed nine songs over 45mins.

Each song and the guitar solos were met with a rapturous response from the packed crowd.

“It was a really good night,” band manager Johnny Hasserati said.

The members of The Presence grew up together, with Dave Lancaster (lead vocalist) and Julien Leuzzi (lead guitarist) living in the same street. Dave’s father is of rock band Status Quo fame.

“We’re all mates,” Dave said of his fellow band members Julien, Riley Moore (rhythm guitarist) and Mathew McHugh (drummer). Two years after the current line-up formed, the band is about to release the single Now I Know Better, which has already garnered high rotation on Triple M and digital radio networks.

“We’re getting a lot of really good feedback and it seems like we’re on the cusp of a breakthrough,” Dave said.

The band was recently featured on radio and TV shows on Triple M and Channel 7.

However Dave says his highlight was playing on World Youth Day alongside Diesel and Vanessa Amorosi at the St Vinnies World Youth for Justice Charity concert.

“That was a real buzz,” he said.

The band has a new album due for completion in coming months.

Afterwards, the boys plan to do an east coast tour of Australia, and then hope to go to the UK.

But for the time being, The Presence will perform at The Annandale Hotel from 8pm tonight to launch the new single. - Hornsby Advocate

Bio

Hailing from the inner city suburbs of Sydney, The Presence produces a dynamic “rocktail” of hard-hitting riffs, contagious beats and roof-raising rhythms. Some say The Presence is the lovechild of AC/DC, Jet & Airbourne.

David Lancaster rips out electrifying vocals while fingering his bass guitar, Julian Leuzzi and Riley Moore smash out the hard-hitting riffs and roof-raising rhythms on guitar, and Matthew McHugh thumps out his contagious drum beats. The boys are renowned for their entertaining onstage antics and amazingly tight set. Maybe this is because David and Jules learnt from the best by growing up in the same street as David’s father Alan, a founding member of Status Quo, and John Brewster from The Angels. Matt is a lifelong friend of the Lancaster family and Riley grew up in the same suburb as the rest of the band. Put simply, the boys are bloody tight!

The Presence has been featured on both radio and T.V. including Triple M’s Ugly Phil radio show and Channel 7’s Today Tonight (‘The New Generation of Rock’).

Back in 2008, The Presence rocked the stage at the St Vinnies World Youth for Justice Charity concert, playing alongside Diesel and Vanessa Amorosi. However, a frustrating hiatus halted the band’s progress.

In 2010, following a rejuvenating line-up reshuffle, involving welcoming Matt to the band, The Presence stormed back into the Aussie rock scene with the release of the popular single ‘Now I know Better’. The band’s second single and debut video clip ‘All I want is your Love’ didn’t disappoint either. The boys took to their music to streets later in the year, playing gigs all over Sydney, including memorable shows at prominent venues such as the Metro Theatre, Factory Theatre and the Annandale.

2011 poses itself as a pivotal year for The Presence. The band is the process of recording its debut album and is planning to tour far and wide. The band has already got off to a flying start this year, supporting renowned Canadian rockers The Trews at the Bridge Hotel in February. So get your hardhats ready, because The Presence is coming to blow the roof off a venue near you!
