The Preview

The Preview has been quickly gaining notoriety in Corpus Christi, TX. We play an eclectic mix of folk, blues, and psychedelic rock that seems to be surprisingly rare, blending influences such as The Band, The Beatles, The Who, Hendrix, and Bowie with dream-like and vivid imagery to create a sound that's hard to describe without having a listen.

Started by lead singer and guitarist Garrett Wieland, guitarist and vocalist Ben Howard, and drummer Matt Carlock, the band began as a trio in December 2008 as a way to showcase original songs, as well as some of our favorite covers. At the time, Howard and Wieland had been working on recording music for a full length album of the latter's songs, but didn't have a band to perform that music. On a whim, the two said yes to an opening gig in December 2008, and quickly brought Carlock in the mix, knowing they now had a goal to work towards. Since then, we've added members, as well as instruments such as keyboards and samplers to fill out the sound, and continue to expand and experiment with the formula.

We recently appeared on the Sunday morning variety television show, "Domingo Live," a South Texas institution for more than 30 years, performing two of our original songs. This summer, we also competed in the Annual Executive Surf Club Battle of the Bands, and placed second after local band Scarlet, which yielded an opening spot at the Corpus Christi Bay Jammin Summer Concert Series. We were also named one of the bands to see in the annual "40 Things to do in Corpus Christi 2010" poll.

We just independently released a short-run of our first EP, "Conversations in a Dream," to raise money for the production of our full-length album. We're also on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/thepreview. Check us out!
