The Professionals

Guitar riffs ripped across the venue when an ang moh walked up on stage, like he owned it and got the crowd hyped up while the rest of the band set up. Starting the much-awaited set with its public debut of “Revolution”, The Professionals got the crowd up and dancing (or an adaptation of that in the sardine can of people).

“Revolution” featured extremely catchy synths. Lead singer triple platinum international award winning producer/songwriter/singer John Klass built up the crowd’s hype with ease. And despite its pop-rock roots, this song was incredibly easy to head bang to (judging by the amount of people with their eyes closed and their heads constantly bobbing).

“The next song is something we wanted to do to slow things down, so we wrote a slow song, couldn’t decide what to call it, so we called it ‘ballad’.” Klass joked before launching into song.

Comprised of John Klass on lead vocals, bassist and backing vocalist Dave Teague, guitarist and backing vocals Luke Buirski and drummer Ritz, the band brought together a team with over 20 years of experience in the music industry. Buirski and Ritz particularly, though deceptively young, worked their instruments (and in Buirski’s case, the stage, as well) like a pro.

The band’s debut single, “Funk It Up” added extremely interesting twist in this set with the band mashing their single with LMFAO’s 2011 hit, “Party Rock Anthem”. Aside from the lyrics, everything else was unlike the all-too-familiar hit. Following a long guitar rift, to which the tension in the crowd was palpable, Klass sang the all-famous line, “everyday I’m shufflin’,” and the band (aside from the drummer of course) proceeded to be extremely adorable stage monkeys.

The band wasted little time for banter as their strong stage presence and good music kept the crowd staying despite their extremely short set (in my opinion, at least).

Their last song of the night “Heaven Knows” featured an almost operatic beginning with a short rap by bassist Dave Teague, which he slayed. Buirski, too, exhibited his ability to interact with the crowd for the last time that night as he imitated the dance that a group of boys were doing in the crowd.

Despite the short set, The Professionals have definitely made their mark in the minds of everyone in the crowd.
