Norwich acoustic roots band The Proposition played their first official gig at the end of 2008 in San Francisco, California, where the band played two very different shows to acclaim from local audiences.
At their first show in the American city The Proposition played alongside San Franciscan country band The Everlovin’ in one of the city’s best known alternative music venues Thee Parkside. At the second the Norwich band played to guests at a prestigious book launch at the glamorous ‘W’ hotel in down-town San Francisco. Guests included top American scientists, authors, and even a former Governor of the state of California.
“We got an equally enthusiastic reception from the indie audience and the book-launch guests,” explained singer Simon Middleton. “Both audiences praised our songs and lyrics, performance and the directness of our music.”
The Proposition’s sound is described as a uniquely English take on acoustic-Americana, offering instantly hummable modern folk songs that explore dark stories through the prettiest of tunes, and all driven by stirringly energetic performance.
Since returning to the UK The Proposition have played festivals, acoustic showcase events, and roots-nights all over Norfolk as well as in London, Essex, Suffolk and Coventry.
Though The Proposition itself is a relatively new band, its three members have been playing in bands together for almost two decades. In a previous incarnation as The Wrecking Company they established a following in Norfolk and played support for Jools Holland & his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra at large outdoor shows across the UK.
