"The Prospect Debuts"

A nattily dressed all-male quartet based in Sarasota, The Prospect recently dropped its debut EP, which the guys cut on Long Island in mid-2007. Titled America, the disc is just four tracks and 12 minutes long, but that brief window gives you a good idea of what The Prospect is capable of. "You've Got Red on You" and "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades" are standard indie-punk fare, most notable for the array of inventive fills drummer Joe Pezzino uses to flesh out the sound. Good, sure, but it's "Curator" -- a tense ballad that revolves around percussive piano taps and moaning strings -- that best displays the band's considerable range. 3 star - Creative Loafing- Tampa

"The Prospect CD Release Party w/ We The Kings"

Glorious Sarasota indie-rockers The Prospect toast themselves and the release of their four-track debut EP in Palmetto this week. Titled America, the brief disc is good, solid alterna-rock fare, sincere without ever seeming cheesy. Bradenton's We the Kings -- whose self-titled debut album reached No. 33 earlier this year on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart -- open this all-ages affair with their no-frills pop-punk gems. After a long stretch of national touring, this is their big hometown gig. (The Hall, Palmetto) --Cooper Levey-Baker - Creative Laofing- Sarasota

Base of operation: Bradenton

Formed: 2005

Music Style: rock/indie/ power pop

Bio: In anticipation of an upcoming U.S. tour, The Prospect just finished recording its new EP, "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades," at New York's General Studios. "General" George Fullan (known for his work with Taking Back Sunday, The Rolling Stones and Action Action) produced the album, and Scott Hull (a John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello go-to) mastered it. Beginning in January, The Prospect will showcase its guitar-heavy, melodic piano rock songs at venues throughout the country. "America" was the quartet's debut endeavor and featured four catchy tracks that "Galaxy Moon" Reyes pre-produced. Due to the bandmates' support from industry honchos and their snowballing Internet popularity, they now have a network of fans from Long Island to Anna Maria Island. They have become bona fide MySpace bigwigs in the indie/unsigned category. Many cyberfans even voted online to secure a slot for them on the Vans Warped Tour last summer, and they have gigged alongside My American Heart, Throwdown, The Chariot and We the Kings (also of Bradenton).
