Bio

Originally from Auckland, NZ, The Psychs are a refreshing blend of Motown, 60’s pop and soul. Taking influence from a wide range of 50’s / 60’s acts including Marc Bolan, The Who, The Sonics, Mary Wells, Marvin Gaye and The Beatles to name but a few.

The band only started performing live in mid 2010 and quickly achieved success and huge airplay on Auckland’s large student station 95Bfm with a demo of ‘Roaches’ following it up quickly with ‘Gee I’ – Both hits hitting the top of their top 10 charts for over a month each. Having risen from the ashes of 3 of the members ex bands The Psychs are lead by former front man of The Electric Confectionaires ‘Jaisi Sheehan’ who is regarded as many within the NZ industry as the nation’s most promising young songwriter. Having risen to young fame by winning the famous Rockquest competition at the age of 16 Sheehan has a back catalogue of thousands of carefully crafted 60’s pop songs that he writes and records in his bedroom. Following The Electric Confectionaires success in the Rockquest competition the band were quickly signed by Sony BMG and went on to release their debut album as well as performing twice at the Big Day Out and Rhythm and Vines festivals.

Simon Davenport (Bass) is the former frontman/songwriter for cult NZ band The Pink Pound Experience who achieved minor fame having come runners up in the 2009 MTV Kickstart competition. The band went on to receive considerable NZonAir funding to make a number of music videos which received widespread TV play. Guitar player Johnny Lyon brings a wealth of experience and performing prowess to The Psychs coming from a childhood of following his father Harry Lyon and his band – Kiwi legends ‘Hello Sailor’ around the world on tour.

To recreate the iconic sounds of the 60’s the band strive for they use vintage gear and record using Motown techniques and equipment in order to replicate that raw sound that died after the British Invasion era ended.

The band (as The Electric Confectionaires) have supported The Fray, Thirsty Merc, Ladyhawke and British India (as The Psychs) whilst in NZ and plan to take the Australian market by storm in 2011 having achieved great things in such a short time in New Zealand. Their debut ‘Roaches’ EP is available on iTunes and will be followed up shortly by a double A-side single to be released only on Vinyl and digitally online.
