The Public was formed in new orleans in 2003 after trial-and-error led to the current lineup of Bryan Besse (drums), Jack Champagne (lead guitar), Ryan Plattsmier (bass) and Travis Shuler (vocals/guitar).
The group united with the intent to entertain a crowd while maintaining their integrity as songwriters and performers. Their dreamy yet cutting sound is a spawn of their own musical tastes, combining influences like the Smiths, the Cure, Joy Division, Pulp, Suede, the Stone Roses and Gene - without ripping them off to be granted instant appeal/success.
In 2003, the band released the "We are the Public" EP and in 2005 a full-length album entitled "Saturn Missile Battery". The band remains together post-katrina and is currently recording their follow-up "No Love Is Permanent"
