"New Album Brings Pucks to centre stage"

....the band's sound makes it one of the most unique group's in Prince George.....best described as pop-vocal roots music, the pucks focus on energetic, acoustic works, loaded with vocal harmonies, and poppy fun.
New album" Are We There Yet? "showcases the pucks talents like never before...first one to focus on just the core band. - PG This Week

"The Pucks"

There's good repartee among these players, and the audience is smiling as much as Cindy
The two standing ovations were much deserved....

"The Pucks!"

It has been my privilege to have had The Pucks perform at our festival for the past 3 years. ...a pleasure to work and deal with...know how to read their audience...full of good humor..have crucial ability to work with fellow artists..confidently lead jam sessions...work alongside famous/ not famous artists with same enthusiasm and passion..music is their own, flirts between respective genres..Cindy is a dynamic tour de force, Murray is a talented songwriter, Lloyd brings it all together with his own distinct flavour. I would highly recommend this band to any festival stage...they especially have utmost respect for their audience, and truly understand dynamics involved in what a festival is all about. "PUCKS CERTAINLY DIDN’T DROP BALL WITH PERFORMANCE"

Last Friday night at Café Voltaire at Books & Company, Prince George’s veteran folk-pop group, the Pucks, gave a spur-of-the-moment concert to a packed audience.
It had been many months in between a live performance from the group, so the audience was happy to be primed with hits from previous Pucks albums as well as some new original gems and a couple of stunning covers.
They told the audience they’ve been together for 17 years now, and time has certainly helped meld the three members - Cindy Larsen on percussion and vocals, Lloyd Larsen on upright bass and sousaphone and Murray Gable on guitar and vocals - into a perfect musical unit.
Favorites from previous releases played Friday included Cinema, Child In Between and the rousing, raucous No More Little Woman. Watching Cindy Larsen pour heart and soul into this number made it a grand finale for the concert.
Gable is the songwriter of the group and his tales of northern life are a trademark virtue.
As for the covers, Larsen’s take on the Norah Jones hit Don’t know Why outdid the original, with a sweet smooth delivery that mesmerized the crowd.
On the other end of the musical spectrum was a tune Gable penned for a new movie being shot in B.C. called The Beast of Bottomless Lake. Co-authored by Prince George-born writer and actor Kennedy Goodkey, the movie is described as a “documentary” of a team of scientists searching Okanogan Lake for the legendary Ogopogo. Along with providing a decadent tune for the film, Cindy Larsen and Gable recently served as cast extras.
While the movie is big news for the group, they’re also enjoying wider exposure across Western Canada. They’re heading for a concert in Moose Jaw, Sask., this weekend and then off to the Ness Creek Festival in Big River, Sask., July 19th to 22nd

Review - THE PUCKS -- Are We There Yet!
ARE WE THERE YET!
The Pucks
Independent
7-out-of-10
I popped Are We There Yet! on the CD player not sure what exactly to expect, after all it's not too often you see a CD cover where one of the musicians is holding a sousaphone.
Well, the CD was as much a surprise as the photograph.
The CD starts out with Favourite Fantasy, a Latin-flavoured song with a sultry texture, which is highlighted as the introduction to the voice of Cindy Larsen. Larsen's voice is very nice, and could be at home singing anything from folk to jazz, and I'd love to hear her take on some Gothic metal.
Hailing from British Columbia, The Pucks call themselves a folk/pop trio, although really they spend a limited amount of time paying homage to folk in my find. This is what I would term a melting pot pop band that is most at home on the very edge of the genre.
I will grant there is folk instrumentation here, with whistle, harmonica, and bass, but this trio does a good job of taking their sound a bit more mainstream.
Murray Gable is the male vocalist here, and he too has a notable voice. You will fall for it once you hit the song Cinema, and will grow to appreciate as the CD moves through its 11 cuts.
Lloyd Larsen, who plays the sousaphone, along with the bass, rounds out this interesting trio.
One thing about this CD, by the time it's over, you know you've arrived at a place you're happy to be, because the trip has been so much fun listening to The Pucks perform.
