Bio

The Pygmies were born out of a love for simplistic garage rock songs about girls and are a crossbreed of 50's/60's garage rock and 70's garage punk. Since their humble beginnings as a two piece they've been known to add musicians to their live show to mix it up, however they still play as a two piece when it fits the scenario. They write simple, catchy rock n roll songs which charm the audience for the minute and thirty seconds that they are in length.

The founders, Jim Blood and Brendan Tincher, are veterans of the Calgary music scene and have been seen playing in bands such as The Neckers, The Ronnie Hayward Trio, Miesha and The Spanks and even a little stint in The Cripple Creek Fairies. They recently added Kenna Burima (Woodpigeon, Brenda Vaqueros, Beaver Squadron) on Keyboards and Ryan Lottermoser (Restive Hands, Telly) on Bass and have a thicker sound and exhibit four part vocal harmonies live.

The Pygmies freshman release is a self titled scorcher that blasts your eardrums with 8 short, poppy garage songs and two garage rock ballads reminiscent of The Kinks mixed with The Real Kids. On this album Jim and Brendan share lead vocal duties. The arwork was done by Nate Millar, a burgeoning new artistic talent in Calgary and the photos were taken by Arif Ansari, a part time pro-photographer known for capturing local rock groups of Calgary.

All four members share a mutual fervor for simple songs containing catchy hooks that usually center on love and heartache.

The Pygmies are an upbeat addition to any show and play short lo fi garage tunes, some rare covers and many originals.
