"The Racoons Live Show"

"The Racoons are hard hitting rock outfit with an exciting live show. Lead singer Matt Lyall is a hard working rhythm guitarist with an exceptional voice and solid presence. This four piece has been together for the better part of one year, and they have come into their own over that period, developing their act and finding the right chemistry over several personnel changes. The foursome is well matched. Pair Lyall's innate musicality with Murray Mckenzie’s melodic lead riffs and you've got a solid and captivating sound in front of some very decent original songs. Drummer Jeff Mitchelmore plays the tunes without any frills, finding a deep pocket early in the show and keeping it there for the night. Bass player Alex Bodman and Mitchelmore have played together in several bands over a half dozen years and the duo support the show with a powerful synchrony that is telling of their time together. The Racoons are up and comers in the scene, with touring experience and a solid local following. Rumour has it they have been working on new songs through the winter months, and studio and tour plans are in the works for the remainder of 2008. The Racoons are definitely a group to watch and listen for." - Ian Farish

Bio

Rock and roll should be loud and dangerous. Like a tank it is music… avec kaboom. Passionately apathetic and sincerely insincere, Les Raton Laveurs are here. A throwback to the halcyon days of unapologetic garage rock, psychedelia, shoegaze and blues, these gentlemen are fighting the good fight. Does it mean anything? Maybe, maybe not. But the more important question may be, does it have to? In a time where relevance is debated and dictated by jaded scenesters and intolerant hipsters, it would seem that somewhere along the way, we missed the point. It is after all, only rock and roll? Hailing from Victoria, British Columbia, they create music that juxtaposes the heavily sedated pace of life in their hometown. Drummer Jeff Mitchelmore and bassist Alex Bodman lay down a thick, dark and delicious rhythm section. Guitarist Murray Mckenzie churns out loud angular riffs and subtle textures alike, spiraling into a wall of noise and reverb that builds tension to until the magical moment of release. Singer Matthew Lyall projects his lyrics with a loose swagger that perfectly contrasts the ominous and steady flow. Build, attack, sustain, release. Repeat. That old chestnut.
