Bio

What began as a friendship has become a musical collaboration between two Rafikis, (Rafiki meaning friend in Swahili and in Arabic). A female duo consisting only of an acoustic guitarist and lead vocalist, their motto is: Keep it simple.

They have performed live on numerous Texas media outlets, including Austin-based radio station KAZI 88.7 FM Soul Sessions and PR Channel 10 Music video show. You may have also heard them on Dallas-based internet radio fishbowlnetwork.com, at the Fair Trade Film Festival (Austin) and the 3rd featured artist in the Rip Da Mic Poetry Slam (San Marcos, TX). They have performed for the Bill Withers tribute at Austins legendary live music venue Momos. Most recent performances include appearances on the east coast at MRP Inc.s Late Night@ Joes!!! performance series and at the 35th anniversary celebration for Alternate Roots at ROOTS Fest 2011 in June 2011 (Baltimore, MD) alongside well known rapper Talib Kweli and Anthony Hamilton.

The Rafikis talents complement one another and comes with meaning and passion. Always keeping in mind the power of music and the importance of positive influence, they both feel with great talent comes much responsibility. Their music takes on many different sounds which reflects both artists musical influences. Some of their influences include: Sade, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and Barbara Lynn.
