BandFolkAcoustic

Acoustic (Pop/Folk) married duo. With a focus on melody and lyrics the Rafters combine pop sensibility with acoustic/folk instrumentations.

Biography

The Rafters are us...Dave and Miki. We're married and started playing music together long after we met. It was seemingly a natural progression: meet in college, date for 7 years, get married (10 years and going...), buy a house, have kids, start a band, have more kids...

We love music. We still like CDs and the artwork more than MP3s and if albums were around that would be even better. We have gone to 100's of concerts together, from Barry Manilow to Lori McKenna, the Neighborhoods, to Bob Jovi, Ani, Wheat, U2, friends shows, and of course the Indigo Girls (70+ shows alone!)...We'd rather go to a concert than go to a movie or a game or dinner (Miki might dispute this last one)...

Our music is acoustic based pop-folk. The songs are snap shots into our lives or the people close to us. And no Beej that one depressing song is not about you, no worries.

We started playing in 2006 and have played a bunch of shows. A few really big ones (Nashua River Valley Folk Festival, Lancaster Coffeehouse, Lowell Folk Festival), a bunch of really small ones (but no less significant), and a whole lot in-between.

We released a CD in 2007 "The Rafters" and are working on a second (to be released summer of '09). We record our songs in the basement between the noise of the furnace, running water, and the kids...With our 3rd baby due in June, we will be playing more starting in the late summer. Let's connect.

Lyrics

These Days

Written By: Miki Bryan

I remember it was fours years ago
I was on the couch in my bath robe
You were, so soft and warm
Safetly nestled in my arms

I said, you'll never be alone
No need to feel afraid
These words I give to you
To carry through your days

Phone rings and it was you
You said, quick turn on the morning news
I've got to run, but I love you and...
I'll call you back real soon, he said...

You'll never be alone
No need to feel afraid
These words I give to you
To carry through your day

Tears fell down through open eyes
Terror crashed through sun soaked skies
I couldn't breath or make a sound
As our world was dust to ground I said...

You'll never be alone
No need to feel afraid
I swore I'd never lie to you
So that day I prayed

You'd never be alone
Or ever feel afraid
These words I say for you
Mean so much more These Days
These Days

Helicopter

Written By: Miki Bryan - The Rafters

Helicopter colorful, pieces made of wood
Looking up from way down there
Could anything be but good?

Lemon twist, ice cream kisses, firefly a-glow
Pogo stick, starlight wishin'
Mr. Moon was sure to know

Ready, set, go...

First one to crack a smile, banana seats we'd ride for miles
Down streets we thought we owned
First one to blink an eye, swing set pumps into the sky
Jump as far as we can go

Ready, set, go...

Smile fast into the wind
Days last, as tree tops pass
I'm thankful in remembering

Boots stuck in the snow, bells ring and whistles blow
Turn and head for home

Ready, set, go...

Helicopter, colorful, pieces made of wood
Looking up from way down there
Could anything be but good?

Ready, set, go...

Our First Year

Written By: Dave Fitzgibbons - The Rafters

Nothing lasts forever, today felt like forever this time
Like the waves that roll in and roll out and crash down in lines
I don't want for nothing but to have you here by my side
So put it all away, slow down, look in my eyes

I want to see you again
In the shade and the light of Our First Year
With all things new we begin
I want to tell you that I'm still here

Driving home tonight you won't believe what I saw in the sky
The storm clouds ahead were like mountains framing the ride
It brought me back to Tahoe when you were there right by my side
I'd tell you but I know you have other things weighing on your mind

I want to see you again
In the shade and the light of Our First Year
With all things new we begin
I want to tell you that I'm

Still here with you
Despite all of the trouble and the pain we've been through
And I'm alright it's calm out tonight
Under the cover of the star light
Light, light, light shines bright
And the light, light, light still shines

They say nothing lasts forever, today felt like forever
They say nothing lasts forever, oh will we last forever?

I want to see you again
In the shade and the light of Our First Year
With all things new we begin
I want to tell you that I'm still here

I want to see you again
In the shade and the light of Our First Year
With all things new we begin
I want to tell you that I'm still here

Hush

Written By: Miki Bryan

Hush - The Rafters

While I am rocking you my son and singing lullabies
Someone is building stouter planes for death to ride the skies
While I am dressing you my dear in little boyish suits
Someone is making uniforms and sturdy soldier boots

Hush...my son

While you are chasing butterflies amid the tangled grass
Someone is testing chemicals to make a deadly gas
And while you eat your simple fare perhaps the warlords sit
To start again the bugle noise that only calls the the fit

Hush...my son

While I would build a splendid man so fine and strong my son
Someone in secret tries to make a further reaching gun
A gun that on some distant day when drums of battle roll
May leave me with a golden star and iron in my soul

Hush...my son

Set List

The Rafters play original music with a few select cover songs. Our set can range from 20 - 120 minutes.

We also have a large catalog of cover songs if that is a requirment of the event, however The Rafters should be consider an "original" band and not a cover band.

Our music and show is appropriate for all ages. We taylor our set for the occassion. Night clubs, festivals, town fairs, ect are all treated as their own event and music is adjusted accordingly.
