"Review of Moses and the band opening for The Skatalites at The Trocadero Theatre"

Exerpt from The Grateful Web by Phil Emma entitled "Skatalites:Inventors of a Genre"

....The next band was a 4 piece reggae band named Moses Livingston & the Raggamuffins. It was a big relief for me to see a real roots reggae act play in Philadelphia. Moses Livingston is a great reggae singer from Jamaica who has sung with Rappa Robert, Tippa Lee, the Delphonics, and the Honorable Luciano. His voice has a classic roots sound to it with its deep, fast, and melodic flow. This local band was a breath of fresh air on a cold winter night.

Bio

Fronted by acclaimed Jamaican singer Moses Livingston, The Raggamuffins create a unique blend of reggae combining traditional roots reggae with contemporary ideas. Their exciting live shows consist of originals as well as classics by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Gregory Isaacs and more. Collectively, these five musicians form an authentic roots reggae band reminiscent of the bands of old with a new original sound unique to The Raggamuffins.
Hailing from Trelawney, Jamaica, West Indies, Moses came to the United States in 1978. After a transitory stay in Chicago, Moses settled in Philadelphia and formed, Moses Livingston and the Raggamuffin Band. He and his band have toured across the entire eastern seaboard, the mid-west, and the south. As for Philadelphia, Moses has played some of the hottest spots over the years. More recently, NXNW, Doc Watsons, TLA, and World Cafe Live to name a few. With a capable and talented band backing him, Moses Livingston is still a force to be reckoned with. He has been featured on some of the most influential reggae recordings including, but not limited to Dem Bow featuring Rappa Robert and Tippa Lee. His independent albums, Black Ting and Let My Dread Grow (with the hit single (#2 in Ghana); Trying to Make a Fool of Me, featuring the Legendary Delfonics, have received much airplay from our areas hottest reggae DJs. Recently, Moses recorded multiple tracks for Lion I Reggae Jams Volume 1, and collaborated with the Honorable Luciano on one of those tracks.
Members of his band have included Tara Michel, former background singer for Lauryn Hill, and presently a background singer for John Legend (who has occasionally sat in with Moses band on keys). Pablo Fakhourie, a venerable producer and also bass player for Lauryn Hill. Current members have recently been seen at The Vermont Roots Reggae Festival, B.B. Kings NYC, The House of Blues in A.C, The North Star Bar, The Kyber, Grape Street Pub, Stanhope House, Trocadero, Bethlehem Musikfest, Mayfair Festival and many more
