The Ran-Tan Waltz

The Ran-Tan Waltz’s sound is a romantic post-punk one; gloomy and gothic with a trace of ‘60’s-inspired psychedelia. The Wakefield quartet of Alex Aspin (bass), Pete Carbert (drums), Matt Fletcher (guitar) and Sean Parker (vocals) bring together disparate elements to create a distinctive sound. At one moment you can hear Matt’s guitar lines almost stabbing out elements of Ennio Morricone’s great Western soundtracks and at other times the melody’s intense, introspective feel echoes that of the early-80’s English miserablists. Meanwhile, Alex’s emphatic bass sits alongside Pete’s thoughtful jazz-style rhythms.

Fully formed in 2009, The Ran-Tan Waltz are constantly progressive and adventurous. They are not one’s for standing still- remnants of the raw punk band they began life as only evident in the signature malaise of their music and lyrical espousal of the misfit.

With dark, emotive vocals, shimmering guitar hooks, controlled beats and driven bass lines, it’s the sound of a lone ranger riding in to a cold, weird night in the North of England- deeply candid music for the uninvited.
