Bio

The RBIs, a guitar-based band formed in Hollywood in 2000, is a hard-hitting group designed to call attention to classically structured rock/pop songs that groove.

Music Connection described lead singer, Karla Blume’s songs as “medium-tempo forays into that groovy past when the Brits invaded and showed us what haircuts and suits could do for rock ‘n’ roll.”

Karla, a guitar player and her sister, the bassist Amy Blume, were inspired to pick up their instruments by listening to British musicians like the Cure, the Beatles, Oasis, Bowie and the Stones. They are the daughters of legendary folk-singer Carolyn Hester, who is known as much for her startling vocal ability as for her role in introducing Bob Dylan to her Columbia records producer, John Hammond during one of her recording sessions in 1962. This event eventually led to Dylan to be discovered and sign on with the company himself.

Their father, jazz pianist and arranger Dave Blume is best known for having written the hit song, “Turn Down Day” (recorded by the Cyrkle in 1966), and for producing such artists as “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” movie soundtrack composer, Hugo Montenegro. He was nominated for a Grammy along with composer Bernard Hermann, for the soundtrack album of the movie “Taxi Driver.”

Lead guitarist Masato Enami, born in Tokyo, Japan learned English singing to Beatles tunes and drummer Bryn Spiedel formerly of the Ohio band, the Electric Girls, are the other players in the RBIs’ beat-driven songs.

The RBIs were selected by an international software engineering company, En Route, to star in the pilot presentation of a breakthrough form of 360-degree, virtual-reality music video technology. This new product may be the next significant thing in the music industry, because it allows viewers to be in-and move around in-their favorite musicians’ videos.

The RBIs performed at the International Pop Overthrow festival in Los Angeles in July of 2003- 2004 and were selected to be included on the festivals’ compilation CD. They will be participating in the same festival this year in July of 2005 while at the same time, celebrating the release of their debut self-titled album on the cool indie label, Crazy Creek Records.
