Red Hot Chilli Pipers
Biography
November 2009

"The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are sassy, sexy and hugely entertaining. They are
enormously talented musicians who are so skilled they make it all look effortless. This album stirs the blood and will enliven any party. - Lorraine Kelly
-
"Bag Rocks! The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are great live performers with passion and enthusiasm that has captivated the world - great ambassadors for Scotland. I'm a fan!" - The Duke of Argyll

"It's a unique musical experience" - Max Clifford

"The Red Hot Chilli Pipers' twist on our national instrument is a huge amount of fun. They have taken the bagpipes to a whole new audience and given them a rock 'n' roll edge which definitely earns them the Biffy seal of approval!" – Biffy Clyro

Since they walked away with the top prize on UK primetime TV talent show, 'When Will I Be Famous' in 2007, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers haven't stopped for a breath, other than to inflate their bagpipes!

Taking their signature 'bag rock' to the masses, The Chilli's have fast become a global phenomenon, rocking far flung shores from Milngavie to Milwaukee and everywhere in between.

2009 saw the band’s newest release ‘BLAST Live!’ (REL Records, 2009) go triple platinum in Scotland plus debut album ‘Bagrock To The Masses’ (REL Records, 2008) has just achieved silver status in the UK.

The Chillis have also been honing their stage performance this year and an eleven date sold out tour of Scotland, as well as trips around the globe to Spain, Germany, Serbia, America, Malaysia and India has seen the band cement their reputation as one of the most exciting live acts around! Joined by brass boys ‘The Horn Supremacy’ and the brilliant ‘Red Hot Chilli Dancers’, RHCP have been busy ‘heating up’ audiences around the world with a passion for the pipes and drums guaranteed to blow you away!

The Red Hot Chilli Pipers sound is a fusion of traditional pipe tunes and contemporary anthems - tracks include the likes of 'Clocks' by Coldplay, Queen's 'We Will Rock You', a rock medley of Deep Purple's 'Smoke On The Water' and AC/DC's 'Thunderstruck'. 'Flower of Scotland' and 'The Hills of Argyll' get a look in too, Chilli style of course!

The Chilli’s are:

Steven Black – rock ‘n’ roll drummer Steven or ‘Stav’ as he is known to the Chilli’s, also comes from a pipe band background and started playing the drums when he was eight. The band calls him ‘Guru’ on account of the fact that he is a fountain of knowledge!

Stuart Cassells– as well as rocking all over the world in recent years, Stuart was the recipient of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award of the Year in 2005 and has also had his piping featured on The Darkness album 'One Way Ticket to Hell and Back' plus the soundtrack to the film 'Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire'.

Steven Graham - twice world champion snare drummer Steven is also a member of the world’s most famous drum core – House of Edgar Shotts and Dykehead. One of the youngest drummers ever to have played at Grade 1 level, Steven is best known by the Chilli’s for his razor sharp wit and massive onstage grin.

Gregor ‘G-Man’ James - known for his funky guitar riffs as well as a passion for all things electro, not to forget his trademark red mohawk! The G-Man spices things up by adding his own unique twist to the Red Hot Chilli Pipers' live shows.

Kevin MacDonald – winner of countless ‘best chilli piper’ competitions at the band’s live gigs, Kevin is the band’s business brains but his cheeky grin and ability as a top class piper have won him thousands of fans over the past few years.

Malcolm McEwan – known for his red spectacles and stylish outfits, multi talented drummer Malcolm has played with various Grade 1 pipe bands over the years and was the first percussionist to receive a Scottish Music Degree in 2002.
.
Chris Russell – ‘wee’ Chris is master of the keyboards and plays a very ‘jazzy badger’! His boy band looks and cheeky charm have earned the Chilli’s a horde of young fans across the globe and Chris has been a Chilli since the tender age of 18.

Kyle Warren – newest kid on the block and the youngest Chilli, Kyle is a member of 12 times world champion Grade 1 outfit, the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band and was also Pipe Major of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland. He is currently at RSAMD, studying for a degree in Piping as well as modelling in his spare time!

In 2009 alone the Red Hot Chilli Pipers have performed to capacity crowds from Ayr to America and with extensive tours of the USA and Germany already in the diary, 2010 is set for even bigger helping of Jock ‘n’ Roll!
