Biography

Therefore Peter-John Bio.

Equally inspired by classic tunesmiths like Bob Marley and John Lennon, Therefore Peter-John lies somewhere between the innovativeness of Hip-Hop’s Outkast, and the punk-rocksteady attitude of Sublime. Barely known in the pop world, Therefore Peter-John has made a tremendous amount of noise in the underground scenes (yes, scenes…). From hip-hop, to ska, to punk-rock their music has left crowds across Toronto thirsty for more. Barely in their twenties they’ve worked their way from the ground up, all on their terms. With singer/song writter Peter-John, guitarist Calder Ross, bassist William Allen-Creighton, and drummer Emory Martin success hasn’t been overnight, but it’s still arriving pretty swiftly.

In 2002 the band met during a live-to-air performance put together by a mutual friend. They had an hour to rehearse and come up with a fresh beat fresh for PJ to rap/sing on. Calder and William (who have been friends since the age of 3) had been playing in a local ska band called, “Octoclops”. Emory, who had been sneaking into clubs since the age of 12 to play in his dad’s band called, “The Backbeats” was presently in his last year of high school. PJ was studying Radio & Television Arts at Ryerson University, in Toronto. Octoclops had made a name for itself, but as an instrumental Ska/Jazz band, and was about to find itself a new multi-disciplined vocalist. Therefore Peter-John was formed.

Every Friday for the next couple of months was about getting shit faced in this grungy dark basement in Parkdale and rehearsing. No mics, no fans, no record deal, just raw and uncut expression; coming out of four city kids with fire in their sound and a lot to say. Their first show was at Planet Kensington, this dive punk spot in Kensington Market, Toronto. They played all night to a completely packed club, made about 26 bucks, and stumbled out of there with their heads up, ready to set shit off.

By 2004 things started getting serious; they all started getting their acts together, played bigger and better shows, and had more organized and well crafted material. They caught the ear of recording artist and friend K-os, and recorded a couple of tracks live off the floor at his studio. The cd never made it into a lot of hands, or on many shelves, but it gave ‘Therefore’, a voice on the street, and a lot more gigs. Where, by 2005 their stage presence and sound was so big, local producer King Clancy made them an offer to record one song. That night turned into four songs, and a record deal offer with a local indie label. After agreeing that that particular label wasn’t the place for the band, they decided to finish off their record independently, and continue playing bigger and better shows.

Therefore Peter-John are planning to release “Everything is Us and Them” in August 2007, and continue creating their own scene, pioneering their own sound, and focusing on growth, and balance for the future.

For Tears and Dreams

Written By: Peter-John Kerr

For Tears and dreams.....

For Tears & Dreams.

I knew this young boy lived down the road.
Gave up on life, and sold his soul.
And all he ever wanted to do was dream...

I knew this young girl, living a lie.
She'll pull out her pistol, and watch you die.
And all she ever wanted to do was cry....

Sometimes your dreams can make you cry.
Sometimes you gotta cry before you dream.
Sometime your dreams can make you cry.
If you can't cry, oh boy, you better hope that you can dream.
If you can't cry, oh girl, you better hope that you can dream.

She don't know me.
I don't know her, Im nobody.
So she don't wanna talk to me.
And she don't wanna walk with me.
Until Im at the bar getting fucked, now she wants to talk with me.

So now she's backstage,
Caught in rage, cause the girls in the front row are yelling my name.
She got eyes like a hawk, and she shouldn't a came.
She parties all night, and she snorts cocaine.

She's aging, she's outta control.
She's aging, she's rock and roll.
She's no sun, no sleep, no thanks Im full.

8 days a week, she stays high.
You don't wanna be with that bitch if she ain't high.
She sings loud and outta key to the Arcade Fire.

Saying she would change till the day she died.
Crying in my arms as she slipped away...
Then I turned and did what killed her, the very same day.

Sometimes your dreams can make you cry.
Sometimes you gotta cry before you dream.
Sometime your dreams can make you cry.
If you can't cry, oh boy, you better hope that you can dream.
If you can't cry, oh girl, you better hope that you can dream.

Sometimes Stars

Sometimes Stars

Sometimes Stars

Where are you going so late at night….
If I knew, it give me a fright.

Broken glass ceiling conceilling your pulse, life…
Has a way, of cutting so close…

We blind ourselves sometimes…

We're all… such bright stars….
We blind ourselves sometimes, sometimes.

We all have hearts, but some turn cold.
Frozen like deers, for glitters of gold.

Pick up the pieces, of your shattered love.
And blow them away… that's what stars are made of.

We're all… such bright stars….
We blind ourselves sometimes, sometimes.

We get mad when we can't control.
Then we cry when we have to let go.
Trying to find what matters.
When nothing really does.

We already know but were distracted by time.
Those who can't see, trying to lead the blind.
We already know but we forget to shine.

We already know but were distracted by time.
Those who can't see, trying to lead the blind.
We already know but we forget to shine.
So shine and shine, and shine.

We're all… such bright stars…
We blind ourselves sometimes, sometimes.

London!

London!

London

Janey knows I ain't gon' stop you from dreaming.
I only want to make you happy.
So pack your bags, and catch that plane.
And kiss the blue skies without me.

She bought a one-way ticket to London.
And I don't think she wants me coming.
A one-way ticket to something.
And I don't think she wants me coming.
She said that it ain't gonna be easy,
But if it's meant to be, it's gon be baby yeah!

I thought that If you asked me I'd be right behind ya.
But, Jah knows I got to let you find you…
It's the hands of time that took my mind,
Cause I know there's someone else inside you.

So eat your fish and chips wrapped in newspaper.
Drink your pints, smoke your fags with your neighbors.
I want you back, but I ain't gon make you.
Now that you're gone, I ain't gon chase you.

Baby I might have to replace you….
But, I know I'm never gonna be able to…

A one-way ticket to London.
A one-way ticket to Something.
A one-way ticket to London.
A one –way ticket to Something.

She said that it ain't gone be easy.
But if it's meant to be, it's gone be baby.

A one-way ticket to London.
And I don't think she wants me coming.
She bought a one-way ticket to something.
And I don't think she wants me coming….

So out came the booze, and a pack of smokes.
I wanderd through the streets, with nowhere to go.
I tried to buy a flight, but my ass was broke.
I tried to stay cool, but it was hard to cope.

I stumbled baby…
All the way to London baby…
Oh yeah I stumbled baby…
All the way to London.

A one-way, ticket to Something.
A one-way, ticket to London.
A one-way, ticket to Something.
A one way, ticket to London.

She bought a one-way ticket to London!
A one-way, ticket to something!
A one-way, ticket to London.
A one-way, ticket to something…
