Bio

Therefore Peter-John Bio.

Equally inspired by classic tunesmiths like Bob Marley and John Lennon, Therefore Peter-John lies somewhere between the innovativeness of Hip-Hop’s Outkast, and the punk-rocksteady attitude of Sublime. Barely known in the pop world, Therefore Peter-John has made a tremendous amount of noise in the underground scenes (yes, scenes…). From hip-hop, to ska, to punk-rock their music has left crowds across Toronto thirsty for more. Barely in their twenties they’ve worked their way from the ground up, all on their terms. With singer/song writter Peter-John, guitarist Calder Ross, bassist William Allen-Creighton, and drummer Emory Martin success hasn’t been overnight, but it’s still arriving pretty swiftly.

In 2002 the band met during a live-to-air performance put together by a mutual friend. They had an hour to rehearse and come up with a fresh beat fresh for PJ to rap/sing on. Calder and William (who have been friends since the age of 3) had been playing in a local ska band called, “Octoclops”. Emory, who had been sneaking into clubs since the age of 12 to play in his dad’s band called, “The Backbeats” was presently in his last year of high school. PJ was studying Radio & Television Arts at Ryerson University, in Toronto. Octoclops had made a name for itself, but as an instrumental Ska/Jazz band, and was about to find itself a new multi-disciplined vocalist. Therefore Peter-John was formed.

Every Friday for the next couple of months was about getting shit faced in this grungy dark basement in Parkdale and rehearsing. No mics, no fans, no record deal, just raw and uncut expression; coming out of four city kids with fire in their sound and a lot to say. Their first show was at Planet Kensington, this dive punk spot in Kensington Market, Toronto. They played all night to a completely packed club, made about 26 bucks, and stumbled out of there with their heads up, ready to set shit off.

By 2004 things started getting serious; they all started getting their acts together, played bigger and better shows, and had more organized and well crafted material. They caught the ear of recording artist and friend K-os, and recorded a couple of tracks live off the floor at his studio. The cd never made it into a lot of hands, or on many shelves, but it gave ‘Therefore’, a voice on the street, and a lot more gigs. Where, by 2005 their stage presence and sound was so big, local producer King Clancy made them an offer to record one song. That night turned into four songs, and a record deal offer with a local indie label. After agreeing that that particular label wasn’t the place for the band, they decided to finish off their record independently, and continue playing bigger and better shows.

Therefore Peter-John are planning to release “Everything is Us and Them” in August 2007, and continue creating their own scene, pioneering their own sound, and focusing on growth, and balance for the future.
