"The Regulars, 'That EP', review"

Roll over Greg Shaw and tell all the ghosts of garageland the news, here come the Regulars. Seven servings of teenage power pop perfection, including "Becky The Drag Queen" and let's not overlook the very much needed in this era of holiday PCness, "Jewish Xmas!"

Teen Scene

Popped into Teenacide Records head (and Nightranger pal) Jim Freek's Sunday-afternoon Echo show featuring catchy neo-wavers The Checkers, 14-year-old cutie-pies The Regulars, and Jane magazine band-contest winners The Holograms, who unveiled their new singer, a sweet, pigtailed 16-er who sounded like a midpuberty Donna A, or, as Jimbo described her, "young, dumb, and full of bubblegum". See for yourself when they play with fello Freek femmes Rocket at The Key Club, February 28th.

"Amoeba Records in Hollywood's Cerificate of Appreciation"

The Reglars are a local band of four teens (Jasmine, Rory, Harry, and Jenny) who just entered high school. They play their own blend of indie rock (electric and acoustic) and have a lot of fun with it. On Labor Day this year they raised over $1000 at a benefit for the Hurricane Relief sponsored by The Brat Store in Santa Monica, CA. They brought the fund raised into Amoeba and we matched it!

Bio

Jasmine Golan brings the songs, and Harry Silagyi, a blast of skilled electric guitar. Rory Toole minds the drums with Swiss-timepiece accuracy, while bassist Jenny Anderson gives the rhythm section that necessary dose of rolling thunder. Combined, we are The Regulars.

Together for a little over a year, we started simply in a garage hoping for more. We met Nancy from the Brat Store in Santa Monica (www.bratstore.com), played at her annual Memorial Day show, and that was when things started to explode.

After competing in Sugarlight Productions Battle of the Bands, at the Larchmont in Hollywood, and winning against four metal bands, we played more and more shows. KXLU invited us to play on Livation, a live midnight radio show. Next, came KPFK’s “Pocho Hour of Power”, advertising our Hurricane Katrina’s benefits. At our next two shows at the Brat Store and 14 Below, we raised $1,000, which was then matched by Amoeba Records in Hollywood, for up to $2,000.

In January, Amoeba made us their Homegrown Band and our seven song EP is on sale there currently. The EP, “That EP” to be precise, was recorded at WestBeach Recorders summer of ’05. The same WestBeach records that Bad Religion, Rancid, and Blink 182 laid down a few of their albums.

Lately, we’ve been invited to play alongside several of Teenacide Records (www.myspace.com/teenaciderecords) bands, such as The Holograms, The Checkers, and Rocket. Teenacide is headed by Jim Freek, one of the many friends we’ve met along the way.

Though we are still in high school and all very different, we are glued together by our love of creating music. As a band, we have achieved more then we thought we ever could and are hoping that this journey together won’t stop anytime soon.
