Bio
Growing up on an isolated Native American Reservation in Temecula, California, Janel Munoa drove hours, every week to see Rock shows in local Southern California venues. Not having many Native Americans to relate to in the local or national public eye inspired a distinctive view on her world and the people in it, as well as a need to bring attention to the perspectives of Native Americans today.
Janel is putting the finishing touches on her first album, with Engineer/Producer Frank Gryner (A Perfect Circle, Rob Zombie, Tommy Lee). What makes this CD a must listen is the way in which it was created. Janel took on an intensive course in songwriting with Frank, separating herself from everyone in her life for 4 full months. The result was an album shaped from the purest process imaginable, collaboration between artist and mentor, and a stripped to the bone view of Janel.
Playing with the emotional contrasts of uneasiness and safety, Janels music is created to provoke thought. Her songs look at the absurdity of human behavior, rebuking the romantic fantasy of life as a Native American, our Voyeuristic obsessions, and the exposing of our darkest thoughts. Janel has written her album about relatable topics that comes from an angle all her own.
The effort going into the creation of Janels sound is immense. With goals of releasing her album by late 2005, Janel and her band have been rehearsing for months, as well as continuing her live performances. Along with an aggressive marketing plan in the works, theres strong momentum behind this undertakingwhich can only result in success for Janel and a new niche in music.
