"It’s a shame I don’t live near Toronto, this is one group I would like to see in concert"

I must be having a 60's flashback weekend. Following up on the wonderful 60's sound by The Above, I was sent a link to the group The Reply and their EP Downtown Soul. It is a wonderful EP.

The group is a Toronto soul band and consists of James Bond (keys/vocals), Carl Nanders (bass/vocals), Freek Siezenga (guitar) and Scott Mckean (drums/percussion). Each member has over 10 years of performing, recording, and touring experience.

According to The Reply “soul music is real music about real life..It’s never gimmick and it doesn’t date. It’s about right now: love and loss, right and wrong, rich and poor. It’s life music” Those sentiments can be heard in the groups “Give What You Can” The lyrics reminds us to be thankful for what we have. The song itself sounds almost like it could have come straight out of Motown

The song “There Shall Come A Time” to me, had almost a combination of southern rock and gospel feel to it. It is one of those songs I could see myself listening to when I need comfort. It was for me a powerful song, that I would love to see performed live.

“The Reply” the first track off the EP, has 60's sound all over it and they pull it off well. Good vocals and tight instruments combine on this song to make it an enjoyable song.

The EP has five songs, I did not find a bad song on it. It’s a shame I don’t live near Toronto, this is one group I would like to see in concert. You can learn more about the group by going to http://www.reverbnation.com/thereplymusic. - Front Range Scribbles

"The Reply Have A Brand New Video: "Give What You Can""

If you were at The Little Red Umbrella's Pussy Riot benefit at The Ossington last year, then you already know about our friends in The Reply. Their sweaty retro mod rock and soul tunes were among the highlights of the show. Since then, they've released a new five-song EP called Downtown Soul and recently followed it up with a music video for the second track, "Give What You Can". They unveiled it this weekend at the Duke of Gloucester on Yonge Street. - The Little Red Umbrella

""Downtown Soul" their Debut EP which is fantastic, encompassing the feeling of 60's America and beyond, anyway, I am not going to teach you lot to suck eggs, you know what's great, have a listen and see if I m wrong.....I don't think so!!!!!"

After my feature of "Quitty and The Don't,"(Who "The Reply" will be playing with in Toronto soon) I received a rather nice e-mail from James Bond, no, not that one but it did leave me shaken and stirred!
James plays Keyboards and sings in Toronto based Mod/Soul outfit The Reply who have a fantastic sound, like a mash up of The Turtles, Them, early Manfred Mann and Arthur Connoly on speed!
They very kindly sent me a copy of "Downtown Soul" their Debut EP which is fantastic, encompassing the feeling of 60's America and beyond, anyway, I am not going to teach you lot to suck eggs, you know what's great, have a listen and see if I m wrong.....I don't think so!!!!! - Ice Cream Man

"Pussy Riot Benefit Show"

"A couple of weeks ago, we threw a party in support of Pussy Riot. The Russian riot grrrls have been sentenced to years in prison for singing an anti-Vladimir Putin song a church in Moscow. So we asked a bunch of our favourite Toronto bands — ATTAGIRL, Pow Wows, shy kids, The Reply, Alphabot! and Ryan Kamstra from Tomboyfriend — to come play. Which they did. The result was a pretty freaking kickass night of music, with all of the money raised going to help Pussy Riot with their legal expenses. "
