The band was formed in 2009 by Chaka Chikodzi, who brought together youths from his local arts organization Africville Dandaro Centre. The Centre runs multi-media arts events and workshops that aim to foster acceptance and an appreciation of difference in the community, attracting young aspiring artists from all across Ontario.
Through the musical project that became the Resolutionaries Marimba Band, Chikodzi put together a playlist of marimba tunes that combine sweet melodies with African rhythms, and produce traditional songs with contemporary arrangements, offering a hot new blend of hybrid Zimbabwean music
