Bio

Anything goes with this newly formed trio of musicians. Whether they are performing original music, jazz standards, classical music or folk songs, this trio's main focus is interactive, spontaneous improvisation.

Long time musical duo partners Yoon Sun Choi and Jacob Sacks are constantly searching for new ways to improvise with a diverse repertoire. The Restless Spirit Trio originally began as a "The Restless Spirit Music Series" that the duo created in April 2005. The series featured a different special guest each month. Among the most musically exceptional combinations was the duo's work with drummer Matt Wilson.
Since then Yoon, Jacob and Matt have begun performing as The Restless Spirits at notable venues in New York City.

The Ottawa Citizen states that Yoon is ". . . an assured, maverick musical spirit whose risk-taking pays off." Since 2000 Yoon has been living in New York City collaborating and working with internationally acclaimed musicians including Cameron Brown, Steve Coleman, Mark Dresser Joe Maneri and Kenny Werner. Her versatility has allowed her to be involved with numerous projects and performances ranging from jazz opera, microtonal vocal works, improvised music theater, big band and acoustic folk music. Some of Yoon's other projects are The E-String Band, The Restless Spirit Trio, The Joe Raposo Project and 4inObjects.

London's The Guardian states that Jacob Sacks is "a fascinating pianist". He has released two albums on Unleaded Records: "Region" and "Spirals". Jacob is one of the founders of the Creative Music Workshop of New York and performs in his own groups and other various projects like the Dave Binney's group, Balance, Eivind Opsvik's Over Seas, Ohad Talmor's NewsReel, Dan Weiss Trio, Jacob Garchik Trio. A Thelonious Monk Competition finalist and former Presidential Scholar in the Arts, Jacob is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music.

The New York Times hails Matt Wilson as "easily one of the best drummers of his generation." The Palmetto recording artist is recognized as one of the most creative and imaginative jazz musicians of his era. He maintains a high profile in the international jazz scene as a leader of the Matt Wilson Quartet and Matt Wilson's Arts and Crafts, and is an in-demand sideman for some of the jazz scene's most prominent artists such as Dewey Redman, Lee Konitz, Andrew Hill, Denny Zeitlen and Jane Ira Bloom.
