"Triple Teamed: The Ride"

The Zoo 03.05.11

Midweek revelers were treated to a musical assault of the funkiest and most soul-stirring variety when local outfit, The Ride, owned the stage at The Zoo in Brisbane. In a transcendent performance the six piece act defied genre; alternating from the infectiously funky, rap-inspired stylings of Ghost Pimp to the haunting and instrumentally lush sounds of Dust. Sandwiched between the evenings' Triple Teamed counterparts "His Merry Men" and the energetic, nostalgia laden tunes of lead-in act "Le-Suits"; The Ride took the night to the next level with compulsively danceable opener Soul Party which saw the dense Zoo crowd on their feet and transfixed for the remainder of the set. Taking on the challenge of balancing such a tonally diverse set; the band never lost the crowd, contrasting the upbeat and convivial perfectly against more soulful and ponderous numbers. In a noticeably tight musical display the band played off each other the way only an accomplished outfit can; boasting pacey, impromptu solo's from lead guitarist Liam Brizee, complimented by the wonderfully anticipatory melodies of Keyboardist James Lord and Saxophone wiz Sean Mckenzie. After a mixed set that included a sampling of The Ride's newer tracks; the band brought it home with crowd favourite Don’t; the sultry vocals of Aidan Bishop tearing into a final soaring instrumental, lead by drummer James Peters, to lift the room. Surely an act to watch out for in the future; The Ride appear one of Brisbane's up and comers destined to make an impact. - Scene Magazine

"The Ride"

After a long awaited artistic break the boys from THE RIDE have produced an LP which can only be described as the most psychedelic hip hop infused Rastafarian blues rock genre ever. DO NOT ASK ME HOW! The music that The Ride produce defies definition therefore mandating a new terminology in musical genres :: Ghost Pimp.

Think James Brown meets Chilli Peppers meets Sublime meets Prince meets NWA and you might get a bit of a feel for this sound. Needs to be seen and heard to be believed.

The Brisbane-based rock quintet with influences as broad as blues, soul, funk, house, rock and pop, have just released their debut album and its available for free download via the band’s MySpace and Facebook.

With bass player, Billy Bishop from Make Me a Supermodel, The Ride has become his auspicious follow-on project, taking him on an experimental journey into soul and psychedelia.

In 2009, The Ride hit the number 1 spot on Triple J Unearthed charts with ‘Blow My Mind’, whilst ‘Right Back’ reached number 6 and ‘On My Knees’ climbed to number 9.

The Ride is the sound of our experience. The Ride are six mates bound together as one. The Ride is a psychedelic journey through the music that has defined our lives.

Driven with the beating heart of Soul and coloured with the excitement and sexuality of Hip Hop, The Ride is unrelenting. From the irresistible dance energy of Funk, The Ride falls into the dark and sultry tones of R&B, between light and shade, both pain and joy. The Ride will take you from the blistering power and theatre of Rock, with hammering drums and roaring guitar, to the celestial temples of Post-Rock and beyond.

Out into the void

Where drums explode in your chest and pull at the rhythm of your heart Where guitar melts like liquid metal, swelling and crashing like an ocean of colour Where the bass sways you in its deep embrace and the subtle caress of the keyboard teases and excites the imagination A place where the voice of man can shake the earth and speak a language without words

The Ride will take you to a place where sound and movement become indistinguishable, to a place free from conception. Where we all meet to share our experience
