"Sound Off: The Ripe"

Perhaps the deepest scene in Austin right now is groups mining classic Sixties garage pop, an entire movement erupting here in central Texas that is putting a new twist on the sounds of the Kinks, Zombies, and, of course, Beatles. One of our favorite new bands in the mix is RIPE the quartet delivering guitar bleeding tunes that bop and bend behind three talented songwriters and nasally vocal swoons. The group is preparing a set of singles for release later this year, and you can get a taste below with Ripe’s contribution to the Almost There Turn 4 comp, “Holiday.” Or you can catch them live this Friday, August 22 at Room 710 with Grand Champeen, the Bellfuries, and Teen Sensations.

"Preview:The Ripe [Tonight at The Mohawk]"

Fittingly named local pop outfit The Ripe have a fresh, swooning vibe, all the better to showcase their summer-crush worthy vocals. Unsigned as of yet, our guess is that you’re going to be hearing more from them, so tonight’s Mohawk show is a good chance to secure yourself an “I heard them back when” experience. - austinist.com

"Category: favorite band of IDEA label boss"

Have you ever tasted something perfectly Ripe? oh, I have a few examples, e.g. the lips of your parter or a beautiful piece of fruit. Be Not So Fearful, The Ripe will fookin' cook it up, YAS. The Ripe is Comprised of multi-instrumentalists who run the gamut of playing a Truly magical tune. Moving eloquently through the textured, sophisticated baroque elements of Beethoven to the raw warmth of true rock sounds of Howling Wolf are natural for The Ripe and their heavenly musical dreamworld. However,The Ripe mines the obscure and familiar of a present and and past of music history creating something entirely new - not unlike the breakthroughs of Scott Walker, Milton Nascimento, Del Shannon, Neil Young, Kevin Ayers, and The Kinks . Yes, we do have an English Connection, but Texas has a Long History of Psychedelic pop gems like the beloved Red Krayola (Mayo Thompson), Thirteen Floor Elevators and Golden Dawn whom have all had the unique ability to transport the listener to another dimension of pure maple syrup and Heavy Cloud-Floatation. Ripe's music is of Texas yet could have come from Anywhere. I almost forgot the most important ingredient; minstrel tunes have the ability to GET one D.D.Dancing though, i.e. if you let your guard down for a split second. The Ripe is Original as it gets. Don't miss out on the future of music to come. Get Ripe Now.

Bio

With boundless musical imagination, The Ripe has sprung forth from it's roots in power-pop, folk, garage, and psychedelia while still being nurtured by contemporary sounds and influences. Born in 2007, the Austin, Texas group consists of Jake Garcia on guitar and vocals, Gian Ortiz on bass and vocals, and Nick Yaklin on drums. Cultivated by the energy and hooks of powerpop, and consciously trying to bring to real life the Beatles White Album, these guys also feed upon equal doses of Forever Changes era LOVE and The Kinks at their Village Green best. They are but saplings. But students of rock and roll will want to take a stroll through this forest. The Ripe have created their full-length debut record "Into Your Ears" on vintage BBC/Abbey road sound recording equipment at the fabled Circo Perrotti studio in Gijon, Spain to be released through Get Hip Records.
